We’re often taught to look at teeth in isolation.
Crowding, overbites, narrow arches, or relapse after braces are seen as dental problems — something to straighten or align.
But teeth don’t move on their own.
They sit inside a system of muscles, breathing patterns, posture, and habits that act on them thousands of times every day.
When a child or adult breathes through their mouth, rests their tongue low, or swallows incorrectly, the forces inside the mouth change.
Without the tongue resting up on the palate to support wide, forward growth, the upper jaw often stays narrow — and teeth have nowhere to go.
This is why we so often see:
❌ crowded baby teeth
❌ narrow palates
❌ overbites or open bites
❌ orthodontic relapse
Because the function hasn’t changed.
In healthcare, we say: structure follows function.
If we only move teeth but don’t address the muscles and habits shaping them, the body will continue to push back toward its old pattern.
✨ How myofunctional therapy helps
Myofunctional therapy retrains the tongue, lips, and breathing patterns so the mouth can function the way it was designed to.
We support nasal breathing, proper tongue posture, and correct swallowing — before, during, and after orthodontic treatment.
This creates a stable foundation that helps orthodontic results last, supports healthy facial growth, and improves airway health.
Teeth don’t exist in isolation.
When function improves, structure can finally stay where it belongs.
