Please note that the UCL Eastman Dental Institute will be closed over the Easter period and will reopen on Wednesday 8th April 2026.
During this time, we are supporting the Easter Switch Off Campaign, which encourages staff and students to turn off non-essential electronics, lighting, and heating during holiday breaks (Christmas and Easter) to reduce carbon emissions and save on energy costs. However, we are also encouraging everyone to switch off from work, rest, recharge, and prioritise wellbeing.
We hope everyone takes this opportunity to have a restful break and spend time doing the things that help you relax and reset.

Treating gum disease could reduce the risk of heart attacks and strokes, according to new Eastman
Dental Institute research 📊
A clinical trial involving Dr Marco Orlandi and Professor Francesco D’Aiuto has found that intensive treatment of severe gum disease can slow the thickening of arteries - a key risk factor for heart attacks and strokes.
Published in the European Heart Journal, the study provides strong evidence linking oral and cardiovascular health, highlighting the importance of collaboration between dental and medical professionals to reduce long-term disease risk.
