India Retreat Part 1: Varanasi.

We have long wanted to take a group of students to Varanasi.
Located in the north of India, it is one of the world’s oldest continuously inhabited cities, and has significant spiritual resonance — often seen as the spiritual capital of India.

Very early morning on Monday 16th March, we boarded the first class carriage on the 8-hour train from Delhi, whizzing through fields and towns, arriving into Varanasi in the early afternoon heat.

First stop: street chai! (The first of many!).

Over our three days there, we explored this fascinating city by foot and by boat; winding our way through the back streets and floating along the Ganges witnessing the sacred cremation ghats, visiting temples, and meditating together. Sunrise over the Ganges was a highlight – watching the banks of the city come to life in the morning sunshine.

We stayed at the beautiful Clarks Hotel – a perfect sanctuary after the hustle and bustle.

India Retreat 2026 complete!

How to describe? As one of our students said… “I haven’t found the words yet”.

We dived straight in with a fascinating three days exploring the ancient spiritual city of Varanasi. Sounds, sights, smells, street chai, boat trips, wandering the back alleys and visiting temples along the Ganges.

Then we took the train to Rishikesh. Our Himalayan home for the next eight days.

Deep meditations, daily swims in the Ganges, sacred fire ceremonies, laughs, friendships made, and profound experiences.

In July 2023 I was given the opportunity of attending and speaking at the Do Lectures.

I count it as a career highlight:

- 100 fabulous people from all over the globe
- loads of fun on a farm in the wild west of Wales
- everyone united by an overwhelming curiosity to Do better in the world
- a precious few days of stepping out of the familiar and into the unknown
- connections with creative, compassionate and open people

Those kinds of experiences are rare. And that’s exactly why they have impact.

They feed you and lift you up so you can Do more.
