Abusive and toxic relationships aren’t limited to romantic relationships. They can appear in family dynamics, friendships and work place relationships amongst other areas. These can be difficult to recognise and come with the same feelings and fears. These often take the form of emotional and financial abuse, sexual harassment, coercive control and gaslighting.

If this is something you have previously experienced or are currently experiencing and you would like to explore this in therapy, please reach out.

Today, I am attending a CPD training day on ‘Collateral Damage’ - Casualties of Alcohol Misuse. Run by the wonderful Jan Hawkins. I am really looking forward to seeing where the day goes and to deepen my knowledge and understanding on this subject to be able to work more effectively with my clients.

Whilst enjoying a much needed break last week, I received this message from a client who I worked with for 9 months and who finished their sessions recently:

‘Hiya Charlotte, I just thought I would let you know that i’ve spoken to my family and been able to confront things that I’d like to change which I’m not sure I would’ve had the courage to do if not for our sessions, thank you so much again for everything our sessions truly did change my life for the better❤️’

This made my week even better, we all need reassurance sometimes that we are doing a good job and this was so wonderful to hear.

If you are looking for some counselling support, I do have some spaces available at the moment so please get in touch to discuss what you are looking for help with.

Registered member 396297 MBACP

I adhere to the BACP code of ethics, details of which can be found on their website.

I see clients face to face in my private counselling room, on Zoom or WhatsApp video or over the telephone.

I have a strong network of therapist peers, across all specialisms and experiences. If I ethically can’t work with you or can’t accommodate your availability, I will refer you to others who may be able to.

I see clients Monday - Thursday for day time and evening sessions plus Friday day time.

Whereas it’s ideal to have a regular time slot, I offer some flexibility where possible as I understand that it isn’t always possible to commit to a consistent day and time.

If you feel you would like to explore working with me, please contact me via WhatsApp as above, email charlottesmithcounselling81@gmail.com or via the BACP or Counselling Directory website.

The counselling relationship is a special one and I am consistently privileged to work alongside my clients whilst they explore who they are and find acceptance, make changes or whatever the objective is. Together, we work towards creating an equal, genuine, honest, open and empathic therapeutic relationship, where problems can be explored safely.

The first session is charged at a reduced rate, as this is an opportunity for us to explore if we can work together. It is important that clients are able to feel connected with their therapist and feel comfortable and safe in the therapy room, so I invite all clients to have an initial face to face session where possible, to ensure that you are comfortable with me as your therapist.

My clients describe me as warm, empowering and supportive. Having been through the process myself, I recognise the importance of the therapeutic relationship and I take care to ensure my clients feel safe at all times.

I work with all kinds of lifestyle issues and common mental health problems, including anxiety, depression, anger, attachment, sadness, family issues, low self esteem and identity, amongst many other things.

I have worked for a few years now with survivors of domestic violence and abuse, including childhood sexual abuse, emotional abuse, financial abuse, historic abuse, PTSD, dissociation and all of the problems which come with these traumas.

I have extensive experience of career and work stress. I have worked in the world of recruitment for many years as a career counsellor and business owner, and have a wealth of knowledge, empathy and understanding with problems in the work place.

I am also qualified to work with adoption support. This means I can work with adoptive parents, birth parents, special guardianship and people who have been adopted. I only work with adults currently.

As a person-centred Counsellor, I believe that clients are the experts of themselves.

Our sessions are client led and my role is to listen, reflect and facilitate exploration, understanding, acceptance, change and / or growth without judgement.

I do not advise but will offer practical solutions or referrals if needed.

I have been trained integratively, so have a range of other therapeutic approaches available to use if requested or necessary.

This is the calm, peaceful space where clients can relax and feel safe.
