Do men and women have different heart attack symptoms?

No!

Mr Aziz Momin, Consultant Cardiac Surgeon at Cromwell Hospital, shares that symptoms vary from person to person, but there are no symptoms that are more common in women than in men.

Symptoms can include chest pain (a feeling of pressure, heaviness, tightness or squeezing across your chest), pain in other parts of the body (it can feel as if the pain is spreading from your chest to your arms, jaw, neck, back, and stomach), feeling lightheaded or dizzy, nausea, sweating, shortness of breath, and an overwhelming feeling of anxiety.

If you experience any symptoms linked to a heart attack, you should call 999 without delay.

Our cardiology department assesses, diagnoses, and treats conditions affecting the heart and blood vessels.

Have you ever wondered how lung cancer is diagnosed?

Dr Reza Abdullah, Consultant in Respiratory Medicine at Cromwell Hospital, shares what happens in our video.

If you are concerned about any unusual symptoms, you should see a healthcare professional without delay.

If you currently smoke or have done so in the past, you might be worried about your risk of developing lung cancer – even if you don’t have any symptoms. Our lung cancer screening programme is designed to detect early-stage lung cancer, before any symptoms begin.

Did you know that womb cancer is the fourth most common type of cancer in women in the UK?

This Gynaecological Cancer Awareness Month, we're sharing information about womb cancer.

Womb cancer develops in the uterus, which is the medical name for the womb. This is why you may also see it referred to as ‘uterine cancer’.

The most common symptom of womb cancer is abnormal bleeding from the va**na.

However, there are other symptoms, and abnormal bleeding can be common in other conditions.

If you are concerned about any unusual symptoms, you should speak to a healthcare professional.

Recently Mr Asit Arora, Consultant ENT/Head and Neck Surgeon at Cromwell Hospital, performed the first head and neck surgery on the da Vinci Single Port (SP) in the private sector.

The da Vinci SP system is a platform for robotic-assisted surgery designed to enable surgeons to perform procedures through a single incision or natural or***ce.

Performing robotic-assisted surgery using the system, surgeons have seen huge benefits for patients including less pain, faster recovery time, less chance of scarring and tissue loss, and less blood loss.

Earlier this year, Cromwell Hospital became the first hospital in the UK to perform gynaecology and hepato-pancreato-biliary (HPB) operations on the da Vinci SP

“I was delighted to perform the first transoral robotic surgery (TORS) in the UK private health sector with the da Vinci SP at Cromwell Hospital. Being able to offer the latest in robotic-assisted technology means that patients can benefit from a faster and less painful recovery. I’d like to thank the team involved and look forward to offering this as a treatment option for more patients in the future.”

Cromwell Hospital is one of the UK's leading private hospitals for the treatment of head and neck cancer.

One of the most notable additions is the introduction of the chickenpox (varicella) vaccine, which will be available free on the NHS from January 2026.
