Dear All,
Votes cast by the residents of Bexley in the local election on *Thursday, May 7th, 2026,* will decide which political party controls the council and provides services in the borough.
You may have already received a *poll card* with details about the election including what’s required to vote, the voting hours on *polling day (7am to 10pm)* and where your *polling station* is (generally the venue allocated to you in previous elections).
*Please refer to the poll card which has all of the information needed.* You don’t need the poll card itself to vote but in case you haven’t received yours yet or don’t get it at all, below is a summary of some of the key details.
1. If you’re away or cannot go to your polling station on *Thursday, May 7th,* you can apply for a postal vote at https://www.gov.uk/apply-postal-vote *Applications must be received before 5pm on Tuesday, April 21st.*Or you can apply to vote by proxy (someone can vote on your behalf) at https://www.gov.uk/apply-proxy-vote *Applications must be received before 5pm on Tuesday, April 28th.*
2. *Photographic identification (eg a UK passport or driving licence) must be provided in order to vote in person at a polling station.* You can still use a passport that has expired for instance, as long as the picture is a reasonable likeness of how you look now. So by way of example it would be inadvisable to try and use a passport that expired ten years ago in which you look completely different. If you don’t have any photographic identification, you can apply for a free *Voter Authority Certificate* at https://www.voter-authority-certificate.service.gov.uk *Applications must be made before 5pm on Tuesday, April 28th.*
3. You can vote for up to three candidates from a list of 11 (l am standing) that you’d like to see become councillors in Thamesmead East (your ward and part of Bexley Council) which has three members/representatives.
4. If you’re not on the *Electoral Register* you can still apply to be added at https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote*The deadline to register is by 11.59pm on Monday, April 20th.*
5. More information is also available on *Bexley Council’s* website at https://www.bexley.gov.uk
