Eight million adults in the UK lack basic digital skills and 1.6 million are offline. The digital divide leads to exclusion and inequality.
With help from the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, we're doing our bit in East London to train local residents so they have the skills needed to engage confidently with technology.
Thank you Baroness Liz Lloyd, Digital Inclusion Minister, for taking the time to visit us earlier in the week to see our important work up close.
"Being online is something many of us take for granted," says Baroness Lloyd, "but for millions it could mean a new job opportunity, quicker access to healthcare or a lifeline to the local community."
The short video below shows our dedicated colleagues hard at work, alongside local learners who are getting the knowledge they need to navigate what can be a stressful and confusing digital world.
"The reality in our community is that many people do not have the skills and access to the right tools to engage in the digital economy with confidence," says our CEO Elly De Decker.
"We see this every day and we are working to improve people's skills and confidence in practical and meaningful ways. This funding is absolutely crucial to reducing the digital divide."
