Have you ever wondered about the difference between breathing and breathwork? 🤔
Despite its ubiquity, many are skeptical about the transformative power of intentional breathwork. After all, we breathe every day, so how could it possibly make a difference? It's fascinating to explore how something so essential to our existence can be transformed into a powerful tool for our well-being.
Breathing is something we do involuntarily, without even having to think about it. It's a natural process that keeps us alive, allowing oxygen into our bodies and releasing carbon dioxide. Did you know that we take around 17,000 to 23,000 breaths a day without even realizing it!? 😮
However, modern lifestyles, stress and sedentary habits have led many of us to develop inefficient breathing patterns. Shallow, rapid breathing can contribute to feelings of anxiety, fatigue and overall imbalance in the body. This is where breathwork comes in.
Breathwork is a conscious and intentional practice that involves manipulating the breath to bring about specific outcomes. Through breathwork, we can regulate our nervous system on demand, reduce stress, increase energy levels and even tap into altered states of consciousness 🌬️✨
Most of the time, we are not conscious of our breathing. It’s happening outside of our awareness. To compensate for this, and regain a certain balance and stillness, we need to meditate on our breathing, through breathwork.
When we engage in breathwork, we actively participate in the process, using different techniques such as deep breathing, breath control and breath retention to address these inefficient patterns and promote overall well-being. It's a way of harnessing the power of our breath to influence our mind and body in profound ways. 🧘♂️💨
The more conscious we become of our breath, the more conscious we become of everything: our thoughts and feelings, our habits, patterns, posture, our behaviour...
