There are some posts that you could never have imagined having to write however, today we have to inform our volunteers and supporters of the sad passing of Shumas founder Stephen Ndzerem. AidCamps started work with Shumas Ngo in 2003 and since that time we grew to love and respect this compassionate humanitarian. He led his organisation with no other thought than to improve the lives of the people of Cameroon and it was an absolute privilege to be be able to support that vision. Our deepest sympathy go out to his wife Billian Nyuykighan Njodzeka and their family as well as all those who worked with or knew him.

And that’s a wrap! One new classroom funded and decorated, 7 additional classrooms and railings refurbished, painted inside and out with doors and shutters also primed and painted. It was a big task but we got it done with a mad final 20 minutes with all volunteers on hand to get the last classroom finished. What a great achievement from a fantastic group of volunteers.

Followed by a lovely afternoon having fun with the school children, using sports equipment donated by our volunteers.

Tomorrow we’ll be handing over the new school to the community before the dreaded bus ride back to Kathmandu. 🇳🇵

Penultimate day of work. Started off the day with a wake up call of Christmas carol singing!

More painting murals on the walls. Then a fantastic trip to two previous AidCamps International projects.

Finished off with a trip to town to pick up new outfits from the local tailor and sports supplies for our Sports Day with the children tomorrow.

Can’t believe we’re nearly finished!

Back to work in earnest today. Plenty of sanding, priming and painting and an interesting talk on Nepalese culture by a professor at the local university.

Then the lovely news that 2 of our volunteers became grandparents this morning so we had a toast to the new baby. 👶

Lovely day doing jungle activities in the National Park. Jeep safari where we saw deer, monkeys and the spectacular Asian rhino followed by a canoe ride down the river complete with numerous crocodiles and water birds.

We completed our evening with a display of traditional Tharu dancing.

Now back to our final week of work!

Lovely day visiting 2 important temples in the area. Firstly the massive 1000+ step climb to the Kali temple. A tough climb but we all did it and the view at the top was totally worth it. Then time for a quick (‘Nepali quick’!) lunch and on to the temple town of Devghat where we got a glimpse of a previous AidCamps International project and then we crossed the rope bridge into town for a brief walk around.

We were able to leave a traditional offering (oil lamp with rice and bananas in a leaf boat) in the holy river in memory of the wife of a treasured ex-volunteer who sadly passed recently. It was very beautiful.

Then a dinghy ride back to the jeep and home.

We’ll have some tired muscles in the morning.

Day 4 complete. More painting and sanding. The team also decided to tidy up some of the older parts of the school, not scheduled to be done on this project. Ending the day with a momo making class taught by the excellent kitchen staff. What a great end to the first week. Now for 2 days R&R before we do it all over again.

An update on our current project in Nepal from our co-ordinator, Julie Vincent.

Day 1 of the project completed. Lovely welcome from the school - Plenty of hard work, sand sifting, chain gangs, floor laying and window/railing sanding. Great fun and we even found time to exercise with the kids. Followed by a well deserved cocktail watching the sunset over the river 😍

The amazing Hom from RCDP (our main contact at the NGO) posted the update below recently, and shared some of his own photos of the AkzoNobel UK Baffa project. I thought I’d share them here…

On behalf of the Nepal Team, I want to say a heartfelt thank you for the amazing effort and care you put into the construction project in Devitar, Chitwan. Your dedication, teamwork, and positive spirit have made a lasting impact, not only on the structures you helped to build but also on all of us who had the chance to work with you.

It was such a joy to spend this time together, sharing laughter, stories, and teamwork. Your energy and passion inspired everyone and showed how much we can accomplish when we work together. You all have proven that Team Work truly makes the Dream Work, and your contributions will always be remembered in our community.

The memories we have made and the bonds we have built will stay in our hearts forever. Thank you for your kindness, generosity, and hard work. You will always have a special place here, and we hope to welcome you back someday.

Stay Safe, Sound, and Happy!
