What a bloody brilliant idea!

Are you someone who sits and watches the trickle of milk, if any, that comes when pumping? Do you get stressed or sad about your output?

When I was told to pump after feeding to boost supply, I'd sit there and watch. I'd double pump for twenty minutes after ever feed, and become more and more demoralised at the lack of milk in that bottle. I realised that, for my own mental health, I needed to stop watching! Easier said than done. Enter the baby sock.

Now I advise mamas to put a sock over their pumping bottle, and it has been getting incredible results. Some women are reporting often 2-3 times more milk when they remove themselves mentally from the result of their pumping session! We know that oxytocin release is inhibited by stress, and oxytocin release is required for letdowns, so if you find you are getting stressed while watching, try it!

As some of you know, in January I started losing weight. I want to be the best Doula I can be, and the extra weight I'd put on was something I felt was holding me back.

The nature of my job means that at times it's quite physical - it often involves holding women through contractions, walking with clients, being down on my hands and knees during labours, massaging, and often through the night or for a long period of time. I don't think any of that will ever be 'easy' - but it will certainly be easier if my body is strong, I've looked after myself and am physically and mentally in a good place.

So far, things are going well! I've lost 2st 4lb in 14 weeks! It's shaping up to be a pretty good year!

On the 24th of April, a judge in Oviedo (Asturias, Spain) ordered the arrest of a woman who was 42 weeks pregnant to be taken against her will to the University Hospital of Oviedo and to be forced to an induction.

The woman had a low risk pregnancy, she had been monitored and everything was absolutely normal. In the last weeks of pregnancy the hospital recommended induction of labour for going “over these dates”. After being monitored with no sign of distress the couple went for a walk around the hospital to make a decision and when they went home they found the police who arrested her and forced her to go to hospital. The judge had order a forced induction.
This way of proceeding seems to us completely arbitrary and disproportionate.
The pregnancy had been normal and there was no reason or vital emergency that required such measures.

The European Court of Human Rights has declared that women have have the right to decide the circumstances and in which their labour takes place. And also our legal system regarding the rights of patients demands the consent of the person before any medical procedure that implies risks to her health or life.
An induction of labour is a high risk procedure which has pros and cons.
It is a basic and essential right of pregnant women to be able to ponder about this circumstances.
We find absolutely arbitrary and irregular that the legal authority has behave in such manner, without even investigated the Hospital report.

Once she was at the hospital, the woman stayed in A&E with contractions for over an hour. We don’t understand the urgency in the matter if this lady was kept there for all that time. After this she was eventually moved to the labour ward where she dilated by herself without any medical intervention but later on a cesarean was performed due to “lack of progress”. The babies vital signs were perfect throughout and at birth.

Therefor, there was no need to induce and there was no vital danger for the baby. A judge’s order has put in a high risk a pregnant woman who has been made to experience a stress which shouldn’t have endured and has violated her fundamental rights to dignity and physical and moral integrity.

THE LAST UPDATE FROM HER INDEPENDENT MIDWIFE 3 AM 26th April:
“The woman has gone into theatre. Reason: baby being posterior and maternal exhaustion.
The baby had perfect scores throughout and at birth.
There was no progress in the labour but the environment didn’t help. I (her independent midwife) did an internal examination yesterday and she was 6cm. Today she was never as far (in case someone still doubts that one can regress in her dilation) this happened twice, on the transfer to hospital and on the transfer to labourward. The staff at the hospital have been verbally respectful but we didn’t give them an option. And they gave time to establish the lack of progress (lack of favorable environment for dilation)

Thanks for your support we still need it. Let it leave a mark the way this has left a mark on her skin”
