Glassmates are taking over Bermondsey

One of our favourite categories is Agave spirits and we have been on a mission to edutain everyone on just hpw good it is. So we decided to team up with Hacha to hold a day party where the salt is on the rim of the glass and not the back of your hand, and the lime is a component of your cocktail.

All of this takes place on August 30th.

Come through and you might even get to experience the Glassmates mixing drinks and tunes behind the bar and behid the decks.

Music throughout the day will be provided by some of our friends and family who just so happen to be amazing DJ's.

New at home project, espresso old fashioned. This first one looks right, but was too much like a over diluted espresso martini. Next time we'll go with making an espresso syrup.

Cygnet 77

Created to be a sipping gin, which sounds like the opposite to what we know gin to be. Finished in Welsh whisky barrels for around a year with manuka honey we get what can truly be considered what it is being marketed as.

Cygnet are truly focused on sustainability with the entire process looking at the best ways to create a fantastic product without further damaging the planet. The glass bottle is one of the lightest on the market, even the ink for the label is totally biodegradable.

The gin itself on the nose is not juniper heavy, but is definitely juniper present. The mouth is silky due to the manuka finishing, with a almost habanero spice to the finish. This is a gin that would be welcome in many cocktails that gin usually can not. The wood ageing really allows for the botanicals to take on a new lease of life.

Founded in 1846 as a Spanish leather atelier, LOEWE’s master artisans are renowned for innovative leatherwork, and have dedicated over 10 hours to the meticulous handcrafted leather encasement for Hennessy’s Paradis.

Yesterday we had a great conversation with Hennesy around their connection to black culture. Apparently Henny has been referenced over 6000 times in Hip Hop music. They were under the impression that the first time was in 1994,which didn't seem right, so we went in search. Apparently the first reference in Hip Hop was by Digital Underground on "The Humpty Dance".

Time for a little late Saturday night dramming while Wifey is out on the town (don’t worry - the kids are tucked up in bed).
We’ve been fans of Morrisons’ whisky output for a few years now. What they do really well is fantastic-tasting liquid at an affordable price. Their two new limited releases have found their way onto shelves this week and I’m blessed to be able to sample both of them.

First is the old Perth 2009 Vintage collection. A rich, dark mahogany in colour. On the nose it has very much a to***co essence and some dried fruit, ie. raisins and sultanas. First sip confirms those dried fruits and a little bit of orange rind, brown sugar plus some cinnamon with a touch of cloves and a nuttiness on the finish. Very nice for a £90 bottle.

On to the Virgin Oak. A wood that is being increasingly used in scotch whisky - nothing has been in this barrel beforehand. A golden hue, quite oaky on the nose alongside a sweet sugar and toffee with a slight apple orchard aroma as well as a lovely smoke accompanied with creamy butterscotch. I’d like to sip this one while baking a Jamaican ginger cake. I could sit with it all day. Oh, and paired with the chocolate?

You might have noticed that we are purveyors of all good things. Alongside glasses of the good stuff we from time to time partake in ci**rs. A long time mate invited us out to enioy a brand new to the UK market Cuban cigar from .

La for de cano selectos no.3 UK Regional edition. The 6.5" x 42 ring gauge handmade Cuban cigar, is the third UK Regional edition.

I was blessed to have shared time with Ana Lopez, we spoke politics, culture, history and what the future for Cuba looks like in the current world climate. The appreciation for the ci**rs was already there but she took it higher as we discussed the rich history of cigar making and how she got into a 40 year career.

Now the stick itself, simply put, delightful. Smokes long, goes well with Pol Roger or Blantons. And at a RRP of about £42 it's very affordable and more than worth every penny.

There are a couple of things that get us jointly excited when it comes to drinks releases.

Little knowledge nugget for you. Glassmates consists of 2 Caribbeans and a West African in all of our cultures malt and stout are big parts and are revered. As you probably already know all 3 of us really love Whisky. So when these two things combine, there is excitement!

Lochlea are one of our favourite distilleries who consistently push boundaries and carefully put out amazing releases.

So let's talk about this bottling

At 52% ABV this may be the highest proof in its style. We've seen others come in at around 43% ABV and really manage to marry the chocolate and cream of stout with the spirit.

The nose on this release is said to be all butter shortbread, layers of tropical fruit and macadamia nuts.

With the palate of sweet toffee notes and toasted barley

And a Long finish, silky with moreish fruit, cereal and sweet flavours.

This is a limited release for the UK only that will be available through specialist stockists from December 3rd.

We can't wait!
