Our Story
The Alexander Technique is a unique self-help approach that enables people do the things they do with more ease and freedom - from sitting in front of a computer, to playing the guitar or singing an aria. With regular practice, it can enable the learner to identify and prevent harmful postural habits that may cause or exacerbate tension, pain and under-performance. The Alexander teacher uses gentle, hands-on guidance to help the student find a more harmonious coordination of the head, neck, torso and limbs, promoting poise and freedom of movement.
Our habitual ways of moving and holding ourselves have an effect on the way we feel and how well we function. Pupils of the Alexander Technique may notice improvements in their general health and well-being. Many rediscover a sense of calm, lightness, relaxation and alertness they have not experienced since childhood.
People have Alexander Technique lessons for help with:
neck and shoulder tension
back problems
poor posture
repetitive strain injury (RSI)
stress management
pain management
recovery from accidents or injury
maximising benefits from sport and exercise
improving performance - playing an instrument, singing, dancing, acting
breathing and vocal expression
Developed by the Australian Frederick Mathias Alexander over a hundred years ago, the Alexander Technique has helped thousands of people to get more out of life by improving the way they approach the things they do.
