With around 17,000 healthcare professionals trained every year, Paediatric Immediate Life Support (PILS) is the go-to course for professionals who may have to manage and treat paediatric patients in an emergency.

It teaches a variety of skills, including managing a deteriorating patient, treating cardiac arrest in children, and developing team leadership abilities.

Available in face-to-face and hybrid learning formats, PILS caters to the busy schedules of healthcare professionals.

Did you know? You don’t need any prior training to use a defib. Anyone can do it 🙌

But if you want to feel extra confident, it helps to get familiar with the basic steps - watch our video for more information.

💡 Remember: Always call 999 and start CPR immediately when someone is not responsive. The emergency call handler will provide guidance on CPR and help you locate the nearest defib.

One person should keep doing chest compressions while the other retrieves the defib and follows the prompts.

While doing any CPR will help improve the chance of survival, evidence shows that for high quality CPR, chest compressions should be performed at a rate of 100-120 beats per minute to help ensure the best chance of survival.

And the best way to get this rhythm into your muscle memory? Practice! Grab a manikin (or even a pillow), pop on an online metronome, and give it a go.

New data has been released on out-of-hospital cardiac arrests in Scotland.

It's fantastic to see real world progress reflected in these statistics. We can all work together to continue to improve out-of-hospital survival rates 💪

A new report from the Scottish Ambulance Service highlights activity and outcomes following out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) across Scotland between April 2024 and March 2025.

Published on behalf of the Delivery Group for Save a Life for Scotland, the report shares national data, tracks progress, and helps identify where further improvements are needed to save more lives.

By openly sharing this information, partners across Scotland can better understand the challenges communities face and continue strengthening the Chain of Survival.

Science and maths are routinely taught in schools, but what about CPR?

We asked parents in the RCUK office why it matters to them that their child learns CPR in the classroom.

If it matters to you too, sign our petition: https://action.resus.org.uk/cpr-in-schools

Join us on a lifesaving mission! We're lighting up our UK map with individuals and organisations who are ready to act in an emergency.

The more points on the map, the easier it is for us to pinpoint areas needing CPR training and support.

When someone has a cardiac arrest, every second counts. The quicker someone steps in to help, the greater their chance of surviving.

But only 35% of people say they would feel confident stepping in during an emergency like this.

That’s why building public confidence and increasing CPR knowledge is so important. The more people who feel prepared to help, the more lives we can save together.
