Respite care from The Good Care Group 🏡

Caring for a loved one is rewarding but demanding. Short-term respite care offers the perfect opportunity for caregivers to take a break, and those receiving care to continue getting the support they need.

There are a number of situations where it can be beneficial, including:

✔ You or your carer needs a break to rest and recharge.

✔ You or your carer are experiencing illness, stress or burnout.

✔ You’ve been discharged from hospital and need temporary care as you recover.

✔ You or your carer have other commitments or responsibilities, such as work or a family emergency.

✔ You’re considering full-time live-in care but want to trial a temporary solution before committing.

What do live-in carers do? 🏡

The primary role of a live-in carer is to enable people with care needs to continue enjoying a secure, comfortable and independent life within the familiar surroundings of their own home. The individual services provided by a live-in carer will vary in accordance with the day-to-day needs of the person requiring care. This is the beauty of one-to-one care at home – there are no imposed routines or set schedules.

Respite care - what are the benefits? 🏡

Respite care is essential as it supports not only your well-being but also the person receiving care. It gives you the opportunity to take a much-needed break from your caregiving duties and focus on yourself, while a temporary carer steps in to provide exceptional support to your loved one. This ensures peace of mind for both the caregiver and the care recipient.

𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗿 𝗝𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗻𝘀 𝟵𝟱! 🎉

Last week, James celebrated with a lovely lunch out with his carer, Carole, joined by his two daughters and son-in-law. The sunshine was out, the food was delicious, and he absolutely loved the attention. With his deep, rich voice, he even broke into song a few times!

To mark the occasion, Carole made him a piano-themed birthday cake - it even survived a long train journey to get there! 🎂

It’s so special to see Desmond enjoying life in his own home.

Mrs L's 90th birthday celebration 🎉

As a special early 90th birthday celebration, one of our clients, Mrs L, enjoyed a truly unforgettable experience with her daughter, son-in-law and Professional Carer, Kelly, at The Big Cat Sanctuary.

The group stayed overnight in a beautiful on-site lodge and had the unique opportunity to enjoy the sanctuary all to themselves, as no other guests were booked that evening. The experience was nothing short of magical, and Mrs L was captivated by the incredible animals.

The dining area featured a large window offering an extraordinary view directly into a lioness enclosure - an unforgettable dinner backdrop.

As the group retired to their lodge, they were treated to the sounds of lions roaring into the night, which added to the enchantment of the stay.

The highlight of the tour was the opportunity to hand-feed a jaguar, some cheetahs, and a lion! It was a truly special way to mark a milestone birthday! 💙

Staying safe in the heat this summer ☀️

As the UK braces for a summer sizzler and frequent heat health alerts in place, we encourage families to keep a close eye on older relatives and neighbours.

While sun-seekers may be reaching for their beach towels, health professionals are warning of serious risks for older adults, who are more vulnerable to dehydration and heatstroke during extreme heat.

Sabah Shah, Clinical Lead here at The Good Care Group, advises people to stay connected with elderly loved ones during the warm weather - and to offer a helping hand where needed. Here, Sabah has shared her top tips and warning signs to look out for over the coming days:
