The BDD Foundation - The Body Dysmorphic Disorder Foundation

The BDD Foundation - The Body Dysmorphic Disorder Foundation With the right help and support BDD is treatable and beatable. It can affect both men and women, and makes sufferers excessively self-conscious.

The BDD Foundation is the only charity in the world exclusively dedicated to raising awareness and alleviating the suffering caused by Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD). The term Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) describes a disabling preoccupation with perceived defects or flaws in appearance. They tend to check their appearance repeatedly and try to camouflage or alter the defects they see, often undergoing needless cosmetic treatments. Onlookers are frequently perplexed because they can see nothing out of the ordinary, but BDD causes devastating distress and interferes substantially with the ability to function socially. The BDD Foundation cares greatly about the distress BDD causes but we are not a crisis service. If you are looking for further information or support please contact our email helpline: support@bddfoundation.org Unfortunately, we are unable to respond to messages posted to Facebook or FB Messenger.

For the first time after an expansion, and after 10 cycles of the programme, we are able to formally open up the waitlist for our Overcoming BDD Programme.

This is an online programme for adults (18+) experiencing symptoms of Body Dysmorphic Disorder. A formal diagnosis is not required - suitability is determined through a clinician approved screening process to ensure the programme is the right fit and level of support. Registering does not guarantee you a place, but puts you on the list to be contacted for our next intake.

💡Interested? Join the waitlist today by contacting gem@bddfoundation.org

Choosing to register your interest can be a really meaningful first step towards change and recovery. We are here to support you on that journey.

Please note, this programme is not suitable for:
• Individuals under 18
• Loved ones of people with BDD
• Individuals experiencing BDD by Proxy as a standalone illness
• Individuals experiencing eating disorders as a standalone illness

Researchers at King’s College London are testing whether the personalised nutrition programme ZOE can help improve symptoms of BDD.

You’ll get free access to ZOE and personalised advice on foods to support your gut health.

You’ll provide stool samples and complete short questionnaires about your mental health, nutrition, and experience using ZOE.

You can take part if you:
• Have a diagnosis of BDD
• Are 18+
• Are not currently in psychological therapy
• Have never had an eating disorder
• Are not on a special diet (e.g. for diabetes)

This study is led by Professor David Veale at King’s College London.

As the new year begins, many of our social media feeds are filled with pressure to transform, fix, change, or reinvent ourselves.

But January doesn’t have to be about becoming someone new. It can be a month of rest, softness, and continuing a slower winter rhythm. You don’t need to rush, reinvent, or have it all figured out.

Let your January be what it needs to be 💙

Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) and eating disorders are frequently confused with one another, and are sometimes assumed to be the same condition. However, they are in fact distinct disorders with important differences.

In this webinar, Dr Rob Willson will explore how to differentiate between BDD and eating disorders, and why getting the diagnosis right matters.

The session will cover:
🔷 Key similarities and differences between BDD and eating disorders
🔷 Common areas of diagnostic overlap and confusion
🔷 How each condition is maintained psychologically
🔷 Some of the key elements of psychological treatment for both conditions, and how they differ
🔷 What clinicians, individuals, and families should be aware of

Drawing on his clinical knowledge and experience, Rob will provide clarity to help improve understanding, recovery, and support.

Join us for this practical session with Prof David Veale, a leading expert in BDD and cognitive behavioural therapy, focusing on how to prepare for and engage in effective exposure and behavioural experiments in BDD treatment.

This session will explore what distinguishes high quality, well designed exposure work, motivation to face your fears and how behavioural experiments can be used to test and challenge BDD beliefs. Professor Veale will draw on clinical experience and research to explain common pitfalls, best practice, and how to tailor interventions to the complexities of BDD.
