Hello Sunshine,
I’m very pleased that many of you are continuing your yoga practice and have been getting in touch recently to book onto class at Sunshine International Arts ☺️
Yoga @ Sunshine classes are currently on a wee hiatus whilst I undertake a period of study. The Instagram page continues to share updates every now and then, so do keep in touch there. Where I can, I will signpost you to other local teachers in the area.
Wishing you all a lovely summer ☀️☀️☀️

JULY SCHEDULE
☀️☀️☀️
It’s been a while since a schedule was posted 🤪 but here it is!
Classes remain online in July, but there are no classes this week (1st) or the 22nd July whilst I am away.
Thank you to all who continue coming to online classes as the world reopens. I know that gathering online provides you with accessible, convenient options - especially when scheduling around childcare and all that life admin 😉 and we’ll continue to gather like this for a little longer.
See you there!

SPRING EQUINOX
20th March 21
🌱🌱🌱
Not only are the evenings getting lighter, but our little community classes have turned 7!
On Spring Equinox 2014 we held our first Thursday night class in our little arch at Sunshine International Arts and since then have welcomed 6 fab teachers to the arch for regular and one off classes, one from as far afield as Kuwait!
As you for you- we’ve welcomed so many of you, and waved goodbye to some who have gone off to new adventures near and far. We’ve had four former attendees train as teachers themselves!...and we STILL welcome folk who have been coming since that first spring in 2014.
Thank you all for being here.
Much love all, and HBD Y@S and
Carnival Mas meets Yoga🥰

MARCH 🌱🌱🌱
Wowee - it’s been almost 12 months of online classes. It’s gone so quick but also taken so long. What a 🎢 of a ride.
Thank you for continuing to be present.
There’s light at the end of this tunnel though and, in the meantime, we’ll continue to gather. Here’s our Thursday night March schedule.

HELLO MARCH 🌱🌱🌱
Spring equinox is just around the corner and the mornings are full or birdsong these days.
We’re back online tonight with the next series of Thursday night classes to help us through to 12th April, or there abouts. Keeping it simple tonight - feeling our way back in after a weeks’ break.
Welcome Home to Yourself
A little Rupi Kaur to close this evening - our last of The Lockdown Sessions: RESTORE🔋
And just like that - six weeks has flown by. Thank you all for joining the ebb and flow of these sessions- whether you’ve dropped in, stayed for all six, or been there in intention and spirit, it’s been lovely to have your company.
Tonight was my favourite kind of evening, where we were held in each other’s stillness. On these evenings, it feels like we’re still practising together under our wee arch. I hope you feel restored, rested, and at ease.
Enjoy the weekend. There’s a break next Thursday and then we’ll be back on 4th March same time, same place.
Better late than never 😅 - here’s February’s schedule of online classes...
❄️Yoga Nidra with continues though Feb at the later time of 8-8:45pm.
❄️Thursday evenings with Claire continue with the Lockdown Sessions until next week, then a wee break on the 25th Feb before returning in March

⚖️BALANCE⚖️
Thank you all for joining this evening as we explored the balance of the Pingala and Ida Nadis through breathwork, movement and play.
In yoga, there’s a way of seeing life as a cosmic play between the two opposite poles that form consciousness. The sun energy 🌞 and the moon energy 🌚, the Shiva and the Shaki.
The play between these two is always shifting and changing but always interconnected and interdependent. Through the dance - or lila - of these two we find harmonious balance.
🌗🌗🌗
Finding balance seems even more important right now as everything around us continues to shift and change... and for those homeschooling or juggling a complex work/ life balance, you may find a little comfort from Holly McNish’s writing👇Our little reading to end the session this eve.
See you next week, as we move on in our Lockdown Sessions series to RETREAT🧘

🌬LISTEN🌬
Thank you all for joining so fully this evening as we explored breathwork as the hinge between extroversion and introversion; finding a lighter movement guided by breath, facilitating an expansive awareness.
Yoga is the dance to the music of the breath - and that music keeps a stronger, more dynamic movement practise held in focus and presence.
This week has been big. The good big and the not so good big...worlds are changing and our inner worlds are still adjusting. But another world is on her way. Listen, can you hear her breathing? 🌬
Next week we continue our Lockdown Sessions with BURN🔥
See you then 😘xx

Time to delve back in this evening as we continue with our Lockdown Sessions. Tonight, is all about the breath.

🌑EMERGE🌑
Thank you all for joining last night for the our first online gathering of the year. It was wonderful to see so many of you after the break🤗 It felt like those busy January evenings crammed in our little arch at 🥰
Last night was the first of our series of 6 classes that aim to foster a subtle strength of body and focus of mind to accompany us through these darkest winter days. By the time we come to the end of this series, our daylight time will be just that little bit longer🌥
We’re following the arc of the moon still and last night we began with EMERGE...
✨emerging into a new year;
🌑emerging out of our first New Moon of the year;
🦔and emerging ourselves - or gently coaxing - out of our heads and holiday slumber and into our physiology
We took time to befriend this body that may feel a bit creaky, slow and heavy and dropped back into the feeling realms with an exploratory somatic practice - paying attention to all sensations that arise.
Next week - it’s all about the breath 🌬LISTEN🌬

About Yoga at Sunshine : Yoga at Sunshine offers weekly community-centered yoga classes in Loughborough Junction, South East London. Established in 2014 on the foundation that yoga in the city should be accessible and sustainable for all, Yoga at Sunshine classes take place at Sunshine International Arts - a community and carnival arts charity supported by Arts Council England. This humble creative space under the railway arches enables us to keep yoga classes affordable whilst supporting local arts, and nurturing the gathering and growth of a community spirit in Loughborough Junction.
Classes : Yoga at Sunshine classes are all open level and suitable for beginners. Each teacher facilitates a class that’s unique to their continued training and their own yoga practice, however, all classes incorporate the traditional techniques of all yoga lineages; pranayama (breathing), asana (physical postures), and meditation / internal awareness. On a physical level, strength, suppleness and balance of body are created as physical tensions are eased. On a subtle level, space and stillness is created within, easing emotional stress and calming overactive minds.
Supporting the Arts through Yoga: In addition to nourishing body and mind, by coming to yoga classes at Yoga at Sunshine a percentage of your payment goes towards supporting this carnival and community arts charity. In 2019 through attendance at yoga classes with Claire, Lana and Beckie, a total of £2,730 was contributed to Sunshine International Arts - enabling a community and carnival arts charity to reach more people, to create with the community, and to thrive in a time when the arts are so needed but so in threat.
Yoga @ Sunshine Instructors : There are currently two teachers offering weekly classes at Yoga @ Sunshine. Claire Horton (200 RYT & RYTP) and Lana Smith (200 RYT) are both south London yoga teachers, and collectively have trained in a variety of yoga practices from Ashtanga Vinyasa, Sivananda, Bhakti, Prenatal and Well Woman Yoga Therapy.
