Thumb pain from massage is a common problem, particularly for newer therapists or those using repetitive, high pressure techniques.

Often referred to as therapist’s thumb, this pain is usually caused by incorrect hand positioning, overusing the thumbs, or poor body mechanics. Over time, it can lead to inflammation, reduced grip strength and long term injury.

At The School of Natural Therapies, we place strong emphasis on safe, ergonomic massage practice throughout our training. Students are taught to protect their hands by working more efficiently and using their whole body, not just their thumbs.
