šŸš‘ First Aid Tip of the Day: Dealing with Burns šŸ”„
Accidents happen in seconds, all it takes is for a hot drink to be spilt, a hot pan to be touched, or too much sun.

Did you know that 95% of burns to children happen in the home.

Knowing what to do in those first few moments can make all the difference to the speed of recovery

šŸ‘‰ What to do for a minor burn:

1ļøāƒ£ Cool the burn immediately under cool running water for at least 20 minutes, or as long as the person will tolerate it. Don't use cold water or you risk over cooling the person

2ļøāƒ£ Remove any tight clothing, watches, or jewellery before the area swells. If there is clothing stuck to it don't remove this.

3ļøāƒ£ Cover with clingfilm. If you don't have access to it, a clean, non-fluffy cloth or sterile dressing will work well. This will reduce the infection risk and give it some protection.

4ļøāƒ£ Take over-the-counter pain relief if needed.

🚫 What NOT to do:

āŒ Don’t apply butter, oils, toothpaste, or ice—they can make it worse.
āŒ Don’t burst blisters (they protect against infection).

āš ļø Seek medical help immediately if:

The burn is large, deep, or on the face, hands, or ge****ls.

The person is a child, elderly, or has other health conditions.
A little knowledge can save lives. Share this with friends and family—because first aid is something everyone should know! ā¤ļø

Button batteries are a real hazard to young children,
šŸ’„make sure the battery compartment is properly shut
šŸ’„Keep batteries out of reach of small hands
šŸ’„If you suspect one has been swallowed seek medical advice as soon as possible

Flat button batteries may not power your devices, but they can still harm your child.

That’s because modern products are power-hungry. And a ā€˜flat’ battery that is no longer up to the task of powering your device can still hold a charge powerful enough to burn through a small child’s food pipe, if they swallow one and it gets stuck there.

So, please store flat button batteries in a secure box out of reach until you can safely dispose of them.

So while we were out the other day at a beach, my daughter showed me she was bleeding from her foot. As is often the case my plasters were helpfully in my suitcase where we were staying (one day I will learn that if anyone is likely to injure themselves and bleed it is usually her). Luckily there was a first aider on hand.

I thought the first aid was interesting to say the least but kept being batted away. So how would you deal with a bleeding wound?

Baby sleeping bags with hoods, or those without arm openings, do not meet UK safety standards and are not permitted to be sold here. They can cause babies to suffocate, overheat or die.

Yet far too many are available to buy online.

In fact, a new investigation by Which? found many dangerous baby sleeping bags, similar or identical to products that have been officially recalled for suffocation risks, for sale online.

So, please shop safely.

Sleep bags should be well-fitted, (think neck and arm holes that fit well) so that your baby can’t wriggle down inside.

Plus, any sleep bags with hoods or head coverings should be avoided.

Read this for important info on home safety with blinds

Small children have been strangled to death after becoming entangled with the looped cord from a window blind.

It happens quickly and silently.

• Safely secure blind cords or chains with a cleat hook or tensioner to keep them away from children. All new blinds should come with these.
• Try to keep furniture well out of the way of blind cords or chains so your toddler can’t climb up and reach them.
• Consider cord-free blinds for children’s rooms
