Would you sit in an empty restaurant on your own? 🤷🏾♂️
From my experience, the answer is usually no. There is something quite isolating about it (a restaurant in Bangkok provided stuffed Pandas to people eating alone https://www.ndtv.com/offbeat/a-panda-sits-with-diners-eating-alone-at-this-thailand-restaurant-2229343/amp/1). But then I thought, if we all had that approach, who is the hero that would enter first?
I had a conversation with some friends about why they’ve never sought support for their mental health despite their mate (me) being a Trainee Psychologist. Aside from the financial barrier, the most common responses were they didn’t feel that the day to day things they experienced warranted it, as well as that they didn’t know what therapy entailed. However, my question is, how will you ever know if you don’t try?
The theme for World Mental Health Day is “Make mental health and wellbeing for all a global priority”. For many, there are several barriers (outside of our control) to access support, but I challenge you to be curious about the things you can do.
If the menu looks good, sit in the damn restaurant.
