We’re excited to share that PhysioMotion was recently featured in Out & About Magazine.

The article busts the common myth that running or other high impact sports are bad for your joints. In fact, doing these activities can actually be really good for you.

High impact exercise helps keep your joints healthy by stimulating the body to replace old cells with new ones.

It also strengthens the muscles that support your joints, which can reduce pain and protect against arthritis.

On top of that, research shows activities like running, jumping, or stepping can improve bone density by encouraging old bone to be replaced with new bone.

The key is moderation and consistency.

The article suggests doing high impact exercise 2-3 times a week or even just jumping on the spot 10 times a day.

Pair that with the right recovery and nutrition, and your joints and bones will stay strong for the long term.

Check out the full feature in Out & About Magazine to read more about why keeping active is so important, and don’t be afraid to keep moving!

Patrick was born with Erb’s palsy resulting in no right arm movement until the age of 3, but with restrictions.

He has never been able to fully straighten his elbow and would also compensate his right arm movement with shrugging his shoulder.

Patrick lived a full life being a reserve fire fighter in the USA, playing touch rugby, running, attending the gym and travelling the world with his dog Nella.

But in 2022 he started getting pain and a feeling of instability in the right shoulder resulting in him using the arm less and stopping him attending the gym to maintain his strength.

In March 2024, Patrick sought the help of Mr Simon Lambert and underwent reverse right shoulder replacement with tendon transfer.

Patrick and have been working together since July 2024 and with great diligence from Patrick he is now able to use his right arm even more than pre surgery.

You can see from the pictures and videos, the fun they have had along the journey. Mostly Patrick having to calm down Zoe’s excitement when the right arm is able to perform something better at each visit.

Patrick’s rehab was completely tailored to him due to the uniqueness of his Erb’s Palsy presentation resulting in muscles severely deteriorated, but he has gone from an arm that he didn’t trust to happy to drink a pint with and dancing with his wife at their wedding (using both arms!!)

Erb’s palsy is a condition that affects the nerves in the brachial plexus leading to weakness or partial paralysis in the arm.

This can occur at birth or during a traumatic event.

The presentation can vary from person to person and therefore treatment needs to be tailored to the person.

But understand the causes and symptoms can help you with managing your treatment options and expectations of recovery.

In a cardiac emergency, every second counts.

Research now suggests that the first step should be CPR rather than focusing on opening the airway.

Chest compressions are vital because they keep blood and oxygen moving through the body until professional help arrives.

This can make the difference between life and death.

The study highlights just how powerful this simple skill can be and why learning CPR is so important. It is not complicated, but it saves lives.

Whether at work, at home or out in the community, knowing how to respond confidently could mean you are the reason someone gets a second chance.

I went to see Zoe for a couple of issues, which she fixed each time in 1 session and exercises to do at home.

I then hurt my neck and, having a new insurance coverage, decided to go to another physiotherapist that was covered by my insurance company. The other physiotherapist immediately put me on a 10-session program (the number of sessions covered by my insurer) and stopped me from exercising.

After a few sessions, the other physiotherapist also started mentioning private pilates sessions that would help prevent the issue from reoccurring.

I still was not allowed to exercise and felt I was not receiving the right advice/treatment, so I booked a session with Zoe, despite the session not being covered by my insurance.

Zoe identified the source of the issue, which the other therapist had not noticed, and my neck mobility improved more in 1 session with Zoe than in 6 sessions with the other therapist.

Zoe also recommended I resume exercising, which was a relief because I needed to train for an upcoming competition.

No further session was required, and Zoe followed up with me to ensure everything was fine.

I am very appreciative of Zoe’s expert advice and support.

At PhysioMotion, our priority is delivering the highest quality care tailored to your individual needs.

That’s why we’ve made the decision to not accept health insurance payments.

While insurance may seem convenient, it often comes with limitations that can compromise the care you deserve.

From delayed reimbursements to restricted session lengths and arbitrary session caps, these constraints can hinder your recovery.

By working directly with you, we ensure longer, more focused sessions and the flexibility to adjust your treatment plan as needed.

Your health is our commitment, not a transaction.

took a little escape to Yorkshire last weekend.

Lots of coastal walks, a bit of camping, and some good time with a friend. Obviously there would be a lot of food!

She’s back in London now and ready to get stuck in with patients.

Check out the last slide for a funny pic of Zoe trying to fold the tent.

At Physio Motion, we know staying active is key and now research shows it could even help fight the signs of ageing.

Scientists studied blood samples from over 2,800 people in four countries, including hunter gatherer and farming communities. They compared these results to people living in cities and found city dwellers had much higher inflammation markers in their blood. These markers are linked to age related illnesses like heart disease and dementia.

Hunter gatherer groups stayed active by walking, carrying, fishing, farming and cooking over open fires, a lifestyle that kept inflammation low even in older age.

You might not be able to live exactly like this but moving more each day and choosing whole, unprocessed foods can help your body stay healthier for longer.

At Physio Motion we work with a variety of people from different generations, careers and countries.

This makes our job even more exciting, as unlike other health professionals, physiotherapists spend a lot more time with their patients within an appointment and over a number of sessions. This means we get to know our patients very well, and it can often inspire us to take up a new hobby, visit a different country or even learn from them.

Recently, was invited by her patient to visit the London Library, which was established in 1841 by Thomas Carlyle. It has survived two world wars and Inland Revenue debt.

Over the years, there have been many famous people who have used the library, donated works, or written works there, such as Charles Darwin, Emmeline Pankhurst and T. S. Eliot. The building has been developed over the years, which you will see as you move through it, but it still has many of the original features and furniture that make it so unique. Zoe particularly loved the shelving system that feels like it is opening up secrets, and the book lifts throughout the building.

Has this inspired her to spend more time in libraries? Or will she become a member of the London Library?

Remember our 60-second wall sit challenge from last week? If you nailed it, well done! If you found it tough, don’t worry, here are three exercises to help you get there.

These will build endurance in your quads so you can hold that wall sit with confidence.

Shallow wall sit – Start higher than 90 degrees at the knees and hold for 60 seconds. Once that feels easier, gradually lower until you reach a full 90-degree wall sit.

Standing hip flexion – With your back against the wall, stand tall and lift one knee, holding it for around 60 seconds. Switch and repeat on the other side.

Table top hold – Lying on your back, bend both knees to 90 degrees. Hold this position for 60 seconds to mimic the wall sit posture in a less demanding position. You can place a weight on your legs to make it harder.

Myth: One warm up works for every workout or you need to warm up for everything.

The truth is a warm up works best when it is matched to what you are about to do. Raising your body temperature and getting the blood flowing is useful but the biggest benefit comes from doing movements that are similar to your workout. For example, if you are going for a run you could start at a slower pace and once your body feels warmed up you can push harder.

If your workout is low intensity you might not need a long warm up. Sometimes just easing into the movement is enough.

Match your warm up to your workout so you get the most out of it and reduce your risk of injury.
