was reflecting on the week she spent without her Garmin watch.

Although she missed some of its nifty features at first, she realised it was actually quite refreshing to take a break from constant tracking and enjoy activities for what they were.

Not long after, she came across an article in The Times where Peta Bee shared her experience of using various health devices for a week, including a blood sugar monitor, a blood pressure cuff, the Apple Watch and the Oura Ring.

The glucose monitor showed how certain foods like porridge and grapes caused a blood sugar spike even though she doesn’t have diabetes. It helped her think more about how her food affected her energy levels.

The blood pressure monitor gave feedback throughout the day and picked up how things like stress, hydration and body position can make a difference.

But by the end of the week she found herself checking the data more often than expected. It started to make her feel a bit anxious. One expert said that constantly monitoring your body can sometimes do more harm than good.

At PhysioMotion we believe tech can help with health but you shouldn’t let it dictate your life.

Myth: There’s a perfect posture.

You’ve probably been told to sit up straight or that there’s one “correct” way to stand. But the idea of a perfect posture just isn’t true.

The real problem isn’t how you’re sitting or standing, but it’s how long you stay there. Any position, even the “ideal” one, will start to feel uncomfortable if you don’t move.

Our bodies aren’t built to stay still. What helps most is changing things up. Shift around in your chair, stand up regularly, stretch, and move throughout the day.

Trying to hold one posture all day usually causes more tension, not less. Movement is what really keeps your body feeling good.
Good posture is about finding comfortable and balanced positions that minimise the stress on the body.

At PhysioMotion we help you figure out how to reduce pain and stiffness without obsessing over posture.

We all know that Zoe’s second passion is food!

This week she went for something a bit different for lunch by going for authentic Ethiopian food.

Enjera with red lentils and chickpeas made for a delicious and satisfying meal.

She really enjoyed it.

What will Zoe have next time?

Pelvic organ prolapse is something a lot of women go through, but it’s still not talked about enough. This article in The Guardian shares what it can really feel like and how hard it can be to get answers or the right support.

It doesn’t just affect women who have had children. It can happen for all sorts of reasons including exercise, injury or just changes over time. You might feel heaviness, pressure or notice changes with going to the toilet or during s*x. These symptoms are often dismissed or explained away which can leave people feeling confused and alone.

But you are not alone and there are things that can help. Building strength in the pelvic floor can reduce symptoms, help you feel more in control and improve day to day comfort.

At PhysioMotion we specialise in women’s health and can help with strengthening the pelvic floor to support recovery and manage pelvic organ prolapse.

Remember our challenge a few days ago?

If you managed to do it successfully then well done. However, if you didn’t quite manage it, that’s okay. Here are some exercises to help you get there.

●Toe scrunches strengthen the small muscles in your feet that support balance.

● Foot bridges are a great way to activate the intrinsic foot muscles and build strength through your arch.

●Side lying leg abductions target your hip muscles, which are key for keeping you steady on one leg.

You can also try standing on one leg while lightly holding onto a surface for support. As your balance improves, take your hands away for short bursts. When you’re ready, progress by standing on a cushion to gently increase the difficulty.

Practise these regularly and you’ll be surprised at the difference.

Balance is an essential part of everyday movement. Whether you’re walking, climbing stairs or just standing still, good balance helps prevent injury and keeps you steady and confident.

If you want a more personalised exercise plan or if you’re concerned about your balance, book an appointment with one of our physios. We’re here to help.

Keep following for more ways to build strength and control in your movement.

Myth: Physiotherapists only deal with sports injuries or back pain.

Physiotherapy is so much broader than that. Here are just some of the areas physios can specialise in:

●Neurology – helping people recover after strokes, manage conditions like Parkinson’s or multiple sclerosis, and improve balance, strength and coordination.

●Respiratory – working with patients who have conditions like COPD, asthma or long COVID. Physios help with breathing control, airway clearance and building up exercise tolerance.

●Paediatrics – supporting children with developmental delays, cerebral palsy or neuromuscular conditions. It’s about helping them move better, play more and reach their potential.

●Pelvic health – treating bladder and bowel issues, pelvic pain, prolapse and postnatal recovery. It’s not just for women either. Men benefit too after surgery or with pelvic floor dysfunction.

●Cardiac rehab – guiding people safely back to activity after heart surgery or a heart attack, helping them rebuild strength and confidence.

●Older adults – improving strength, balance and mobility to reduce falls and help people stay independent for longer.

●Critical care / ICU – supporting patients to regain movement, breathing function and independence after time spent in intensive care.

And of course, MSK physios treat joint, muscle and tendon issues but that’s just one part of the profession.

Physiotherapy goes far beyond what most people expect. Even here at PhysioMotion we don’t just treat sports injuries we also support areas like women’s health and much more.

Congratulations to our very own who, alongside his girlfriend, has just completed his first triathlon at Compton Verney in Warwickshire.

He powered through the swim in 8 minutes, cycled for 53 minutes, and finished strong with a muddy and hilly run.

Well done on adding another milestone to your fitness journey. Who knows what the future holds?

Keep an eye on this page as there may be a PhysioMotion triathlon event coming soon.

Feeling anxious? What you eat might be playing a bigger role than you think.

This article talks about how stress often pushes us to crave rich, heavy foods. But those choices might actually be making anxiety worse. A better option is adding more fibre to your diet. Foods like fruits, veg, beans and whole grains help keep your gut healthy, and that can have a big impact on your mood.

Your gut and brain are more connected than most people realise. When your gut isn’t happy, it can increase inflammation and make it harder for your body to cope with stress.

At PhysioMotion, we believe in looking at the full picture. It’s not just about exercise, it’s also about how you eat, sleep and feel. If you’ve been feeling a bit off or more anxious lately, try adding more fibre-rich foods and see how your body responds. You might be pleasantly surprised by the results.

Balance challenge!

How’s your balance on one leg when the surface isn’t stable? Can you hold it for 30 seconds? Is one leg more steady than the other?

Here’s Zoe testing hers out on a BOSU ball. Which leg do you think looks more stable?

Try it yourself. If you don’t have a BOSU ball, you can use things like a rolled-up towel, a folded pillow, a wobble cushion or even a mattress on the floor for safety.

Make sure the space around you is clear before you start. If this feels too tricky right now, keep an eye on this page as we’ll be sharing exercises to help build your balance and control.

Myth: Rest always best!

Not quite. While rest can help in the early stages of an injury or during a flare-up, too much of it can actually do more harm than good. Staying still for too long can lead to stiffness, muscle loss and slower recovery.

This is especially true for conditions like arthritis. It’s a common belief that people with arthritis should avoid movement to protect their joints. But the truth is, the right kind of movement can actually help reduce pain and improve mobility. Gentle, regular exercise helps keep joints flexible and muscles strong, which can make everyday tasks easier.

At PhysioMotion, we often say movement is medicine, but it has to be the right kind. Whether it’s injury rehab or long-term conditions like arthritis, don’t assume rest is your only option. Speak to a physio and find out what your body really needs to feel better.

Ozempic and other weight-loss injections are becoming more and more popular for people wanting to lose weight quickly. While they can be effective, there are some side effects that aren’t talked about enough.

A lot of people have heard of “Ozempic face,” where the face looks more sunken or tired due to quick fat loss. But there are deeper changes happening in the body too. One big concern is the effect on bone health. Losing weight too fast, especially without enough nutrients, can lower bone density. This is a real risk for women going through or near menopause, as they’re already more likely to develop osteoporosis.

Other hidden side effects include problems with digestion, changes to the gut bacteria, and low levels of important vitamins and minerals. These can affect your energy, hair, skin, and immune system. People also report things like nausea, bloating, and constipation while on the medication.

At PhysioMotion, we always look at the full picture when it comes to health. Weight-loss injections might be helpful for some, but it’s important to understand the possible downsides aswell. If you’re thinking about using them, speak with a healthcare professional to make sure it’s the right choice for your body and long-term health.
