The City College of Acupuncture

The City College of Acupuncture CCA runs a BAAB-Accredited Licentiate in Acupuncture, a Tui Na course, Student Clinics & CPD events.

CCA runs a three year Licentiate Diploma in Acupuncture course (LicAc) which is accredited by the British Acupuncture Accreditation Board (BAAB), leading to membership of the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC). The CCA diploma in Tui Na Chinese medical massage course has two pathways. For complete novices with no knowledge of TCM the course takes two years. The course can be completed in just one year for students with an existing TCM qualification. CCA also regularly hosts Continuing Professional Development (CPD) courses covering all aspects of TCM. Internationally renowned practitioners use CCA as their base when lecturing in the UK.

Credit: Kate ✨Why I chose to study Acupuncture at CCA 📗🌿

You are told at the beginning of the Acupuncture couse it's a journey of spiral learning which is different to linear studying paths most are used to. The same applies when it comes to working with needles in your Acupuncture practice. "Trust the process", "It'll come", "Practice, practice, practice" were regular anecdotes heard from Tutors and colleagues.

✨How it started 💫 🌪️

At CCA, you start learning to practice with needles quite early on from week 6, which is great because it's the primary medium you have chosen to work with in this medicine. Needling practice is revisited along the way dovetailing with your other vital classes in Anatomy, Chinese Medicine and Point Location to name a few. You are well supervised throughout and learn something from everyone you encounter along the way. By the end of second year, you are practicing needling fairly consistently ahead of your third & final year in Clinic treating members of the public.

How it's going 🌪🌪🌪💫 💫 💫

I have just opened my practice doors and stand here now with full belief and trust in the process that has been, having cultivated a foundation of safe, appropriate and confident needling practice. Taking the time to learn, study, practice, contemplate and receive treatment myself, I know it's so much more than practically inserting needles into a Patient's body. I have a deep reverence in the medicine I have learned to practice at CCA these past few years and I intend to show up with this in my own practice moving forward every time.

❤ Loving my time at City College of Acupuncture.❤

🌟 Studying here has been, and continues to be, a life changing experience. 🌟

🩺 I initially trained in western medicine but felt like I was fighting against mother nature, rather than working with her.🌻🐚 In my search for something gentler I discovered Traditional Chinese Medicine, and haven’t looked back. ☯

The City College is 600 miles from my home but well worth the commute! 🚅 Staff are highly experienced, and knowledgeable with diverse backgrounds and often many years of clinical experience. This adds breadth and depth to their teaching. 🧊

The course challenges in every regard, and you cannot help but grow as a person, alongside the academia. 🌳 📚

I’m so glad I came here, and excited also to return home and start to share acupuncture with my local community. 🎉🎉

Thank you CCA! ❤

Credit: ✨Three years of hard work and I’m about to qualify as an acupuncturist – and what an incredible experience it has been.

I’ve had the privilege of learning from a team of highly skilled practitioners who have shared their wealth of experience, knowledge and passion for Chinese Medicine. The training has been challenging, fascinating and engaging in a way that far exceeded my expectations. It’s been a stretch, I'm not going to lie, it's definitely a marathon and not a sprint! Which makes it all the more satisfying and rewarding, knowing that you have received a rigorous and thorough education including a year of hands-on clinical training in the student community clinic.

Along the way I’ve made some amazing friends and every member of our student cohort has generously shared their support. I’m excited to see how we all move forward and develop in our new careers.
Not the end, just the beginning...

Image and text author: ✨Returning to study as an adult can feel daunting, especially when it is a subject that is entirely new to you. When I reflect on my time learning acupuncture at CCA something I really cherish is how the college encourages you to learn how to learn. This isn’t a one-size-fits-all thing, its about discovering what resonates for you and how you can best engage with the material and concepts.

✨As someone with Dyslexia I was given extra support by CCA that I had never had in school, and I feel this made such a massive difference to my learning experience as well as helping me to understand how I can feel most confident in my learning process. During my time at CCA I discovered that the best way for me to learn, and to feel excited about learning is visually - the images in these slides are just a handful of the visual resources and memory aids I made for myself during my studies at CCA.

✨( Image description: The first image is a digital illustration with a black background and a face turned to the side showing the local acupuncture points, the second image is a pencil illustration with a cat-mermaid showing the pathway of the heart luo channel. The third slide is a pencil illustration, of a critter looking at its belly showing the pathway of the spleen luo channel. The fourth slide is a digital illustration of a face looking forwards on a black bag round showing some acupuncture points on the face.)

Nearly at the end of my British Acupuncture Council approved ‘3 year Licentiate in Acupuncture’ at the City College of Acupuncture in London. I am so excited to soon be launching my career in Acupuncture! I can’t wait to make a difference to people’s wellbeing and as a bonus, I get to be my own boss!

After 20 years of working in jobs that weren’t really me, I am so happy to have chosen to retrain in such a meaningful line of work where I am going to support people on their healing journeys, treating them holistically and as an individual.

Acupuncture was definitely the right choice for my future career path, could it be the right choice for yours? 🙏
