APPG for Obstructive Sleep Apnoea highlights unique challenges for women

4th December 2024 marked the reconstitution of the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Obstructive Sleep Apnoea, Chaired by Jas Athwal MP and Co-Chaired by Baroness Sandip Verma, with a focus on ’s Health.

Chair of the APPG, Jas Athwal MP, stated:
“Women face unique challenges from men with OSA due to gender-specific symptoms such as insomnia, fatigue, and mood disturbances. While women are like men in that they have the cardiovascular risks of hypertension, heart failure, and stroke, these risks can be heightened in women due to hormonal factors, a greater effect on mental health, and pregnancy complications.”
