There is a price to pay for every unhealthy mouthful, such as sending indirect invitations to our arch enemies known as diabetes, heart disease and obesity, all of which do not make polite visits but come for a long-term residency in order to deliver their blow of destruction. As the sun shines, informed, healthy choices will deter the unwanted guests of disease. Remember to stay away from empty calories laced in sugary foods, toxic food colours meant to stir desire for consumption, fizzy drinks that do not quench thirst and junk food that is devoid of nutritional value. Instead, reach for a plain glass of water for hydration; your heart will thank you. Choose healthier sources of sweetness such as organic honey, unrefined sugar, smaller portions, and the thoughtful use of fast foods – if you must. The current burden of disease for heart conditions in the United Kingdom:
