System Administrator Appreciation Day
This Friday, 25th July, is System Administrator Appreciation Day, and we have to give a massive thank you to someone who plays a vital role in keeping our school running smoothly behind the scenes, Fred, our ICT Project Manager.

Fred ensures that our networks, databases, computers, and printers are all running smoothly throughout the year. He responds to every IT issue and query with speed, skill, and good humour, no matter how big or small the task.

Thank you, Fred, your support makes a huge difference every day, and we’re truly grateful for all that you do.

Dearly Beloved
Students in KS3 music have been choosing music to learn. This week L. chose "Dearly Beloved" by Yoko Shimomura from the game Kingdom Hearts.

L. played the melody on the piano and M. played chords on the guitar. The first time through the tune we kept it simple and then built it up on the repeat.

Martin helped out on guitar.

Teddy Bears Picnic Day
This week at the Brompton, one of the primary students enjoyed taking part in Teddy Bears Picnic Day! She designed her own menu including jam sandwiches, chocolate chip cookies and fruit. In Design Technology she then followed a recipe to bake the cookies as well as making heart and star shaped sandwiches. She also designed her own moving bear called Bella, that could come to the picnic and enjoy the food with her!

Music with City of London Sinfonia
Students at Lavender Walk are enjoying a three-week project with musicians from the City of London Sinfonia.

Each week, they make music with different musicians playing a variety of instruments. This week, they met Alex on violin and Anna (an Open Academy Fellow) on harp. Gawain, the lead artist, brought his clarinet along with a range of electronic instruments, while Fiona, the project coordinator, played the ukulele.

Over the rest of the project, students will also meet musicians playing the cello, bassoon, and percussion.

London Youth Conservatoire Concerts
Students at three of our school sites have recently enjoyed concerts by musicians Yu-Wei Hu from Taiwan, who played the Baroque flute, and Johan Löfving from Sweden, who played the theorbo. The performances were part of the London Youth Conservatoire’s Impact Programme.

Science Museum Trip
Students from our CCC school site, along with staff, visited the Science Museum in South Kensington. We spent the first part of our trip exploring the first-floor exhibition all about Medicines and Bodies and were able to learn about the transmission of different diseases, which is the topic students are currently studying in Biology.

We then booked a visit to the 'Wonderlab', the museum's interactive gallery. Here, we viewed ourselves through an infrared camera, created 'clouds', built bridges, solved puzzles, made aeroplanes, and even orbited the sun! A favourite amongst students was testing out the friction slides (even teachers enjoyed this one!) and investigating lightning and static shocks.

Students also enjoyed choosing a fridge magnet to keep at school as a reminder of our trip to the Museum.

We had a really great day and are looking forward to visiting again in the near future to explore the exhibitions we haven't yet had a chance to see!

Tarte Tatin
Students at our CCC school site have been baking the famous French caramelized apple tart yesterday, a tricky dessert, but when it works it is delicious. And it was! This dessert, invented in France in the late 19th century, is named after the Tatin sisters, who accidentally cooked the tart in the oven the wrong way round. In a rush, they flipped the dessert upside-down onto a plate and served it warm. This dessert quickly became an immediate hit. Accident or Invention?

Thank You, Ashley – Inspiring the Chefs of Tomorrow!
We would like to give a huge thank you to Ashley Marsh, a lecturer at the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts, who has been visiting our CCC school site for the past four years to deliver his inspirational cookery sessions.

Working as part of the Academy’s ‘Adopt a School’ programme, Ashley delivers monthly sessions with our students, focusing on topics such as healthy eating and nutrition, food provenance and identification, knife skills, hygiene and food safety, as well as practical cooking activities.

This helps our students develop their life skills in a relaxing and supportive environment, and we look forward to many more exciting sessions.

Thank you, Ashley!
