As part of Antimicrobial Resistance Week (18–24 November 2025), students at Ladbroke Grove took part in the third of four workshops of "The Fleming Initiative Project", led by Imperial College London.
In the first workshop, students learned what antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is, why it is a problem for society, and how our everyday actions, such as washing our hands properly and not overusing antibiotics, can help prevent this resistance. The students were set the challenge of creating a resource to teach others about AMR that could be shared across the country.
In the second workshop, students considered the different ways we learn information or new skills and began to think about how other students could learn. Working in teams, they came up with a variety of learning tools and started to shortlist their ideas, including video series, quizzes and comic books.
In this week's session, students began to refine their ideas in teams, considering which key learning points they would include, how their idea would engage others, and how they planned to influence behaviours. At the end of the session, we saw a range of prototypes that had been created, including Dyson vacuum cleaners, Minecraft and the first Macintosh computer.
Our final session will involve making our prototypes, which we hope will be great fun. A huge thank you to Julian, Alex, Natalie, Dan and Dr Ming for visiting us and involving us in this exciting project.
