Professor Paulina Salminen from Finland will be joining us at for the session on "Changing practice"!

Paulina Salminen is a Professor of Surgery at University of Turku and Turku University Hospital, Finland. She is a surgeon scientist combing high-quality clinical research with continuous clinical work and her main research interests are also her clinical interests – acute care surgery focusing on acute appendicitis and bariatric surgery and acute care surgery. She is the principal investigator of all APPAC randomized trials focusing on the treatment of uncomplicated acute appendicitis and various prospective cohort studies.

We are pleased to also welcome Prof Thomas Weisner opening our Day 2 for 👇

Thomas Weiser is a general, emergency, and trauma surgeon at Stanford University. He is currently the Program Director of SAVE (Surgery: Assess / Validate / Expand) at Wellcome Leap. For over two decades he has led global efforts to improve the quality, safety, and accessibility of surgical and anesthetic care. He has directed multidisciplinary teams across the healthcare, medical device, research, , quality improvement, nonprofit, and start-up spaces to achieve programmatic and organizational improvements using data-driven and outcomes-oriented approaches.

We are honoured that Dr Clare McNaught is opening our Day 2 for 👇

Dr Clare McNaught is the new President of the and a Consultant General and Colore**al based in Harrogate. Her clinical interests include **al cancer, IBD and the impact of frailty on surgical outcomes. She has always been passionate about training and supporting the next generation of surgeons through her roles as educational supervisor, research mentor and MRCS examiner. Clare was elected to RCSEd Council in 2014 and was Honorary Secretary from 2020-2022. She was elected to the office of Vice President in 2022, the first woman to hold this role since 1505.

We are honoured to have Prof Jane Blazeby closing Day 1 of for this year.

Have you registered yet? 🤔

Jane Blazeby is Professor of Surgery at Bristol University. She has been instrumental in transforming surgery so that research evidence and practice are part of everyday patient care. She successfully leads and delivers surgical by extensive engagement with surgeons of all specialties. She directs a Medical Research Council Hub for Trials Methodology Research and is co-director of the Royal College of Surgeons Trials Centre in Bristol. Professor Blazeby is chief investigator of the world’s largest trial in surgery and is mentoring a new generation of academic and NHS surgeons who understand and lead research.

Our next speaker, Mr Ryan Kerstein, who is speaking for the session, "Innovation skill development" at 🤩

Ryan Kerstein is a Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust and is the Skin Cancer Lead. With a career spanning surgery, healthcare , medtech , and strategic , he is dedicated to advancing medical practice through technology, collaboration, and leadership. In addition to this, he is the Trust’s Associate Medical Director for Research and Innovation, the Lead for the Royal College of Surgeons of England Future of Surgery Innovation Hub (I-Hub) and Editor of the Royal College of Surgeons of England's Bulletin Journal.

Our next esteemed speaker for our session, "Digital transformation of the surgical pathway" for our is Prof Ewen Harrison ⭐

Ewen Harrison is Professor of and Science at the University of Edinburgh and a Consultant HPB Surgeon at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. He is Director of the Centre for Medical Informatics within the Usher Institute, University of Edinburgh.

He leads the Surgical Informatics group, performing data-driven research focused on improving patient after surgery. Interests include machine learning, crowd-sourcing patient-level data, surgical , mobile data collection platforms and “wearables”, decision modelling and patient-reported outcomes. He leads the NIHR Unit on Global Surgery at the University of Edinburgh, a collaboration with the University of Birmingham.

Next up is the brilliant Professor Susan Moug - speaking during the " transformation of the surgical pathway" session at 🤩

Prof Susan Moug is an academic colore**al and general surgeon in Royal Alexandra Hospital, Paisley. Her research interests are linked by the common theme of improving surgical patient outcomes: frailty, older adult, lifestyle factors in colore**al cancer and contrast ultrasound for re**al cancer staging. She currently holds a NRS Chief Scientist Office (CSO) Senior Research Fellowship and is one of two Surgical Specialty Leads for Colore**al (RCSEng). She has recently been appointed to Director of Research for ASGBI.
