In our latest podcast episode, we are joined by best-selling author and palliative care doctor, Dr Rachel Clarke.

You may be familiar with her book ‘Breathtaking’ which reflected on working for the NHS during the pandemic and was adapted for TV.

She discusses the importance of storytelling in medicine and how you can make it part of your day-to-day practice.

“The findings in the GMC’s annual workforce report will unfortunately come as no surprise to our members.

The report highlights a growing crisis with many doctors (..) unable to access speciality training and more and more doctors leaving the health service.

With growing gaps in the medical workforce and increasing issues with recruitment and retention, this situation is untenable”

At 11:00 the Association will join the Armistice Day two-minute silence to honour all who have fought and died for our country.

We also pay tribute to the anaesthetists and medical teams who bring care and comfort in conflicts.

During the First World War, advances in anaesthesia transformed the treatment of soldiers in shock. Learn more from our exhibition summary, “The Riddle of Shock: Anaesthesia in the First World War". 🔗 https://buff.ly/HqeETbK

About us

We represent the life-changing, life-saving profession of anaesthesia - by supporting, informing and inspiring a worldwide community of over 11,000 members.

Our work and members span the globe, yet our voice is local and personal. We stay in close constant with our members, look after their day-today well-being, and act as their champion. Our world-class conference, journal and online resources educate and inform; our respected guidelines continually improve standards of patience safety. We preserve and learn from the history of anaesthesia. We use our heritage to inform the present, and facilitate vital research and innovation into the future of anaesthesia.

As an independent organisation, we speak up freely and openly for the interests of anaesthetists and their patients. We influence policy, raise public awareness and are at the forefront of safer anaesthesia, across the world.
