Can exosomes reverse grey hairs? 🧬
Exosomes are nano-sized messengers released by stem cells that deliver proteins, RNA, and growth factors directly to target cells. In the context of hair, they may reactivate melanocyte stem cells - the pigment-producing cells in our follicles that switch off as we age—potentially restoring colour at the source rather than simply masking grey.
But here’s the truth: we’re still early. Current evidence is limited to case reports and small-scale studies. While results are intriguing, they aren’t yet backed by large clinical trials. That means exosome therapy for reversing greys is experimental, not yet a proven or standard treatment.
As a hair restoration surgeon, I believe it’s important to share these developments transparently. The science is evolving, and I’ll continue to monitor and evaluate the evidence before bringing it fully into practice.
For now, consider exosomes an exciting frontier - but not a magic switch.
