Our Story

Based in the heart of London, the School of Health Sciences at City, University of London delivers foundation, undergraduate, postgraduate, apprenticeship, CPPD and City Health short courses across the Divisions of Health Services Research and Management, Language and Communication Sciences, Midwifery and Radiography, Nursing, and Optometry and Visual Sciences. Its purpose is to improve the health, care and wellbeing of individuals and communities through the highest quality education, world-leading research and progressive partnerships. We are a modern, professional, highly-connected School.

We serve the need for specialist education and professional training of school leavers, healthcare and graduates from all academic backgrounds, and healthcare and allied medicine professionals from the UK, the EU and from around the world . We are actively engaged in internationally-recognised research that has a direct and real impact on the provision of healthcare services locally, nationally, and internationally. We have over 120 years’ experience in training health professionals and were one of the first institutions in the world to train optometrists. We still are only provider of optometry courses in London. We are proud of our healthcare education heritage and of the pioneering healthcare professionals who have paved the way for their respective professions.
