🌟 Today, March 21st, the world celebrates World Down Syndrome Day.

At the heart of Yoga for All Abilities lies a story of love, dedication, and inclusion.

The Method, founded by Sonia Sivakami Sumar, was inspired by Sonia’s journey with her daughter Roberta, who was born with Down syndrome. It was through this experience that Sonia gravitated towards Yoga and developed techniques dedicated to assisting children with disabilities.
Throughout our journey, inclusion has been our guiding principle. Today, it is with joy that we reinforce the importance of this day of global awareness, celebrating the lives and rights of people with Down syndrome, ensuring they have access to the same freedoms and opportunities as all of us.

This year, the theme for the day is “No more stereotypes, end ableism.” It’s time to break down barriers, promote inclusion, and recognize the unique value of each individual.

Embrace this mission of building a more inclusive and welcoming world for everyone. 💜

🕉️ Dear Yoga for the Special Child / Yoga for All Abilities sangha,

We have an important announcement to share with you, our incredible community.

After 52 years of traveling and teaching, Sonia Sivakami Sumar, the founder and director of Yoga for the Special Child is retiring.

Through her insightful hands-on method of teaching, she positively impacted the lives of those with disabilities, and also inspired many others to begin on their own path of practicing yoga.

Her work has spread to numerous countries around the world and has changed countless lives for the better.

Sivakami will be teaching a few more trainings in person and online in early 2024. We hope that she will continue to have special participation in some online programs after that time.

Sivakami has an amazing team of program teachers who have been trained personally by her and her daughter Renata over the years. They will continue to carry on her legacy and through them, The Sonia Sumar Method will keep inspiring the population with disabilities to feel empowered, to trust their bodies, to develop strength and flexibility, to learn how to breathe correctly, to improve their balance and most importantly how to relax and be at peace within themselves.

Thank you for being a part of our community and rest assured that Yoga for All Abilities will continue to flourish under the careful stewardship of Renata Sumar Gaertner (MahaJyoti).

The dream team of MahaDevi’s office ! We literary are from all corners of the world ! Bulgaria + Mexico + Ethiopia + Philippines + South Africa ( though Ben is not in the picture ) ! Unity in Diversity ❤️😍❤️ if it was not for these amazing beings MahaDevi would not be here. Their love care selfless service laughter and bright spirits lights up the space and literally gives it life. I am forever grateful ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

LAST CALL FOR WINTER RETREAT
(RESTORATIVE YOGA, SOUND THERAPY, MINCE PIES)
SUNDAY 10th December 14.00 - 19.00

Ben and Grace are collaborating again for the last time in 2023 to bring you a half-day Winter Retreat. This will be a great way to welcome in the festive season, reflect on the year just gone, set intentions and nourish the body through a variety of practices. It really is a full programme including:
Settling in with Intention Setting and Journaling
Mindful Movement Practice: Gentle Hatha Yoga and Qigong
Deep Yoga Nidra
Somatic movement with music
A Yin into Restorative Practice
Healing Sound bath
Closing circle for reflections

There will be time for connection or quietude where we will serve hot chai and cake in between.

Cost: We have 3 pricing options - please choose the price you think suits your level of income and/ or generosity

£75 Supporter Rate: is a rate that supports yourself and others in the community
£65 Sustainer Rate: is a rate that supports yourself
£55 Supported: is the community-supported rate or concession price

We have 15 spaces available

All equipment will be provided but if you would like to bring along anything extra comfy or a blanket that you love please feel free, this is your practice and we want people to feel as at home as possible.
