I'm generally quiet about the fact that I'm also a Craniosacral Therapist.

The main reason is that the Alexander Technique is my main interest, but the other is that I struggle to know how to talk about it.

This short blog goes some way to explain why that might be, and it's the first time I've written something without a target audience in mind. It’s just me needing to get something off my chest.

Hopefully then, I'll feel more comfortable talking about in the future.

So you’ve heard about Craniosacral Therapy (CST). Maybe a friend described it as a miraculously gentle massage that left them feeling profoundly relaxed. You’ve probably read the standard explanation: it’s all about the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and its rhythm. But what if that explanation is ...

So, you’ve heard about the Alexander Technique. Maybe a friend mentioned it helped their back pain, or you read that actors and musicians use it to improve their performance. You’re curious, but then you start hearing terms like "primary control," "inhibition," and "end-gaining" and it can start...

I bought a wobble board, still getting used to it 😁

Was actually recommended it by an AT student, who was also recommended it about 6 years ago by another AT teacher, the amazing guitarist Julian Lage. Interestingly, my student plays saxophone, not guitar, and can practice sax on his wobble board. Early days for me, I'm not about to try slinging a guitar round my neck just yet (I do play) :)

Don't Chase The Dragon: Why the "Wow" Feeling Isn't the Goal

But it does feel great 😊

One of the easiest traps to fall into when learning the Alexander Technique is the desire to repeat that first big “wow” moment—the feeling of lightness, ease, or spaciousness that often follows a lesson. It can feel like a sudden awakening, as though a weight has lifted and the world has shif...

Constructive Rest can be quite tricky psychologically.

Although physically as easy as lying down, it's power resides in the quality of your thinking.

We're obsessed with fixing, optimising, and achieving. Got a stiff neck? Do these exercises! Feeling stressed? Try this breathing technique! Want better posture? Stand up straight! We're wired to do something, to actively make change happen. This drive is so ingrained that it even sneaks into practi...

I often get asked about sleeping positions.

It really isn't about positions, it's about the tension habits you take to bed with you. Sure, certain positions help to not aggravate those tensions, but the solution is to work on your daytime tension habits. Caveats surrounding injuries etc.

I often make the point about the crazy positions small children sleep in, then saw this video pop up in my socials. Cute.

"An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" - Benjamin Franklin This quote pops up everywhere – health, car maintenance, even saving money. But let me tell you, this nugget of wisdom is pure gold when it comes to how we use our bodies and minds. And guess what? It’s basically the unofficia...

I'm too lazy to do bad ! 😁

Let’s talk posture. Ugh, right? That word usually conjures images of stern teachers, nagging reminders to "sit up straight!", and a vague sense of guilt as you inevitably slump back into your comfy-but-crumpled positions. What if I told you the secret to better posture isn’t about trying harder ...

"The hardest thing about the is not being self judgemental. If you can crack that, you're halfway home."

Let’s talk about posture. You know, that thing your mom nagged you about at the dinner table? The thing you still feel guilty about when you catch yourself hunched over your laptop like a question mark? We’ve all been there. But what if I told you that sitting up straight isn’t about forcing y...

Why the Alexander Technique Might Just Be Your Back’s New Best Friend.

Although the is about so much more than just posture and , it is an area that it has shown itself to be very effective, so why not shout about it? :)

If you’re reading this, chances are you’ve had one of those days—where your back feels like it’s been acting like it’s got a personal vendetta against you after hours of slouching, lifting, or just… existing. Sound familiar? It has a sneaky way of making everything harder. Trust me, you....
