Everyone has a balance of habits that helps them stay healthy. This is mine.

There are some things I just don't bother eating. Simply because I don't find them to be worth it.

Typically they have a lot more calories than they are worth. By that I mean, they don't keep me full for very long. That's why I never really got into the habit of eating them even though often these items are marketed as "healthy."

In reality, most of the time they are just full of a lot of sugar.

I don't know about you, but sugar is my natural enemy. It sneaks into everything and before you know it, you've eaten 5 tablespoons of the stuff and it's not even lunchtime yet.

I prefer to know when I'm eating sugar and enjoy it properly you see. ;)

Tell me some things that you don't generally eat.

There is a science to creating habits and it's actually fairly simple.

1. ๐Ÿ‘‰ find a TRIGGER that prompts you to take the action you want to make into a habit.
For e.g if you want to take a multivitamin everyday. Your trigger might be the glass of water you drink first thing in the morning.

2. Have a ROUTINE for the habit you want to create. This is what you have to practice doing daily before it becomes part of who you are.
E.g in this case the routine might be going into your kitchen cupboard and taking your multivitamin.

3. Have a REWARD. We create habits when our brain understands it feels good. E.g a reward for taking your multivitamin might be enjoying a delicious breakfast afterwards or having your morning coffee.

This is known as the HABIT LOOP.

When we practice healthy habits, it eventually becomes part of who you are.

How many of these have you got right for you?

Preventative medicine comes down to the daily habits we have in place that are tailored to our specific needs. These typically fall into 5 categories:
1. Environment
2. Movement and rest
3. Sleep and wakefulness
4. Emotions and feelings
5. Food and drink.

Getting these right can help us not only prevent illness in the long term but solve many of our immediate issues like tiredness, restlessness, anxiety, stress, gut health issues, excessive weight gain...and the list goes on.

Love a good sweet treat?
๐ŸŒฑ
I have a sweet tooth. But too much sugar in your diet can have negative effects including inflamation, ageing, and it can result in insulin resistance which can lead to developing type-2 diabetes.
๐ŸŒฑ
The good news is, you can change your taste.
๐ŸŒฑ
Routinely opting for low sugar options / natural sugars reduces your tolerance for sweet treats.
Dark chocolate (80% +) and berries are great options.
๐ŸŒฑ
This yogurt bowl is my favourite sugar fix. It's made with natural yogurt, a tsp of honey, blueberries, banana, and a sprinkle of cocoa powder.

Omelettes are perfect if you are looking for a warming and drying food. Perfect for if you have a cool moist temperament.

Omelettes make such a great breakfast choice because you can pretty much use whatever leftovers you have to make them. They are also packed with protien to keep you going for longer.

In this omelette I've used cherry tomatoes, garlic, mixed Italian spice, olives and feta cheese.

Home cooking plays such an important role in being able to support your body.
๐ŸŒฑ
It gives you control over the quality of ingredients you're using so everything you put in your body benefits you.
๐ŸŒฑ
It doesn't have to take forever to cook either. Leftovers count.

Our body is designed to self-heal and keep us in optimal health. We just have to support it to do its job.

This is something that the founders of modern medicine Hippocrates, Galen, Ibn Sina knew but we forget.

Food supports our body, exercise supports our body, breathing supports our body, sleep supports our body, and being in nature supports our body.

Winter is Coming...
๐ŸŒฑ
The environment around us does affect what foods our body needs.
๐ŸŒฑ
Warming foods are likely to be what you want on the menu. Usually that means salads are out. But you can enjoy warming salads during winter.
๐ŸŒฑ
This mackerel and pasta salad dish is one of those recipes. Both oily fish and pasta has warming properties and heats the body.
๐ŸŒฑ
Great for winter.

This is one of my favourite lunch bowls - naked burrito. Warm delicious hearty lunch.
It's loaded up with spinach, roasted peppers and onions, black beans, chicken. It also has avocado and red onion salsa on the side that has plenty of tangy lemon ๐Ÿ‹ on it.
It's just ๐Ÿ‘Œ.

I have a secret...
๐ŸŒฑ
And her name is Sophia.
๐ŸŒฑ
On the 10th of April I gave birth to our baby daughter Sophia. She is beautiful and already pulling fast ones on me ๐Ÿคฃ (she is too smart.)
๐ŸŒฑ
It was quite the journey to have her which ended with a C-section. I won't lie. Going from being very active to barely shuffling around has been...well...a kick in the guts you could say (slipped ya a wee pun there.)
๐ŸŒฑ
As someone who really enjoys exercising, and good food, it's been quite a shock to the system to go from being strong, to not being able to cough without my stomach hurting. ๐Ÿ˜–
๐ŸŒฑ
And then there was the phase where all I could eat was jam toast and cake (I was like the boy from Matilda who learnt too much of a good thing is just ๐Ÿคฎ)
๐ŸŒฑ
In some ways it's been like living a social experiment. I really experienced how it feels to not eat right - how tired and lethargic it made me. Also how stiff and sore being inactive makes you. It's more than physical though, the mental toll it takes on you has been very real for me.
๐ŸŒฑ
So, needless to say, after this epic journey, I'm now starting at ground zero to rebuild my strength and readjust back to healthy eating. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿฅ•
๐ŸŒฑ
The whole journey has given me a new appreciation of how important looking after your health is.
๐ŸŒฑ
But the journey also gave me Sophia and it's more important to me than ever to make sure she grows up around a positive approach to health and wellness. And that starts with being patient and simply doing whatever I can consistently.
๐ŸŒฑ
I will be sharing any and all the tips I have on how I'm putting myself back together for those of you looking to get fit too.
๐ŸŒฑ
If you have any tips on what you did to look after yourself physically or mentally post baby, let me know. Xx

It's unrealistic to think you can eat sugary treats on a daily basis and it will have no impact on your health.
๐ŸŒฑ
It's definitely unrealistic if you're trying to lose weight, and if you aren't, then sugar is still never going to be something great for you.
๐ŸŒฑ
A lot of foods and health pages can be misleading when they constantly post "healthy dessserts." 9/10 healthy desserts are not being eaten constantly.
๐ŸŒฑ
But i'm not anti sweet treats! I'm a lover of them myself.
๐ŸŒฑ
I'm a believer in the 80/20 rule. But this particular healthy recipe belongs in my 20%. If I'm going to have something sweet, I want it to be delicious and home baked is still always going to be better for you.
๐ŸŒฑ
This peanut butter and chocolate chip recipe is a "healthy dessert" but only because its made with real food (like delicious agave syrup, dark chocolate, oats and flour) not because I eat it all the time!
๐ŸŒฑ
โญFull recipe now on my website!โญ
Enjoy responsibly for optimal health ๐Ÿ˜‰
