As registered Osteopaths we are required to do 90 hrs of CPD (continued professional development over a 3 yr period). We then have to do a peer review! This is JJB Osteopath & I peer reviewing each others CPD diary & setting an action plan for the next 3 yrs over dinner & a glass of red!

UNRAVELING THE ROOTS OF BACK AND NECK PAIN 🤔🦴

Back and neck pain, affecting people of all ages, can stem from various causes. Here's a breakdown:

Mechanical Causes:

1️⃣ Muscle Strain/Spasm: Often from overuse, poor posture, or heavy lifting.
2️⃣ Herniated Disc: When the inner part of a spinal disc protrudes, causing nerve pressure.
3️⃣ Osteoarthritis: A degenerative joint disease leading to pain, stiffness, and reduced mobility.
4️⃣ Spinal Stenosis: Narrowing of the spinal canal, pressuring nerves, resulting in pain and weakness.
5️⃣ Trauma: Injuries from accidents impacting bones, muscles, ligaments, and nerves.

Non-mechanical Causes:

1️⃣ Stress: Triggers muscle tension, leading to pain.
2️⃣ Anxiety: Induces muscle tension, headaches, and fatigue.
3️⃣ Depression: Can reduce physical activity, weakening supporting muscles.
4️⃣ Other Medical Conditions: Arthritis, osteoporosis, and cancer can contribute.

In some cases, the cause may remain unknown, termed idiopathic back pain. 💡
