Say hello to the latest feature in our ‘Meet the Team’ series - where we shine a light on the remarkable people who make Icon Cancer Centre London such a special place. Through this series, we are proud to showcase the dedicated colleagues who go above and beyond every day - sharing a glimpse into their roles, what inspires them, and the difference they make to our patients and their families.

Today, we’re delighted to introduce you to our new starter, Michelle Swan. With just a couple of months at Icon Cancer Centre London, Michelle has already brought warmth, vision, and leadership to her role as Lead Cancer Nurse.

As a newly appointed lead, she is focused on supporting and developing the nursing workforce that delivers care to people affected by cancer. At the heart of her approach is something beautifully simple: caring for another human being. “Nursing gives me a deep sense of purpose,” she shares. “It’s where caring, connection, and trust come together.”

Her practice is grounded in person-centred care, underpinned by clinical excellence, professionalism, and integrity. These values shape every interaction she has - with patients, families, and colleagues alike - and guide the nurse and leader she strives to be each day.

Already, she feels inspired by the team around her. Excited to be part of Icon, she speaks warmly of the experience and expertise that surrounds her. She is looking forward to bringing fresh energy to the role while learning from those around her. “Being part of such a committed and passionate team is both motivating and humbling,” she says.

For her, nursing has always been more than a career. Inspired by her mother, who was also a nurse, she knew from an early age that this was the path she wanted to follow. That early calling still influences her work today, grounded in pride, respect, and a deep sense of responsibility.

Outside of work, her superpower is simple but powerful: positivity - something she brings into every room she walks into. With compassion at her core and a clear vision for the future, Michelle is already making her mark at Icon Cancer Centre London and we are delighted to welcome her to the team.

Leeds is a major centre for healthcare, supporting people from across Yorkshire. As more families are affected by cancer, the need for care that is closer to home has never been more important.

That’s why Icon Cancer Centre UK has shared plans to develop a new centre in Leeds, as part of a wider health initiative at AMT Headingley Stadium, home of Leeds Rhinos Rugby League Club.

Right now, many people in the region have to travel long distances every day for radiotherapy treatment. This can be stressful, tiring, and difficult to manage alongside everyday life. The aim of this new centre is to ease that burden - bringing advanced cancer care, including the latest radiotherapy and PET/CT services, closer to where people live.

At the heart of this proposal is a simple goal: to make care more accessible, reduce travel time, and support patients in a setting that feels connected to their community.

We’re proud to be working with AMT Headingley Stadium, Leeds Rhinos, Headingley Cricket, Leeds City Council, and local community leaders, including Dame Linda Pollard, who joins Icon Group as a Strategic Advisor.

There is still more to do, and we will continue to listen and engage with the community as plans develop.

As we observe Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, our focus at Cancer Centre London is to highlight the path to understand men’s health and to encourage proactive health management. Our commitment remains to provide compassionate and advanced treatment options.

Here’s what our experts have to say about the latest advancements in men’s health:

- Dr Vincent Khoo, Clinical Oncologist: “We are harnessing advanced technologies such as precision image-guided radiotherapy and minimally invasive treatments to improve outcomes for prostate cancer. Early detection and innovation go hand-in-hand in giving men the best chance at surviving and living well."

This International Women’s Day, we’re proud to stand by our wider Icon Group network in celebrating the theme.

During March Cancer Centre London and Nuffield Health Parkside Hospital want to shine a spotlight on prostate cancer because conversations can save lives.

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men. In the UK, more than 63,000 men are diagnosed every year, and 1 in 8 men will face a prostate cancer diagnosis in their lifetime.

We want to help raise awareness and encourage men to look after their health, to know the signs and risk factors, and to feel empowered to speak openly about concerns. Early detection makes a life-changing difference.

We encourage everyone - men, families, colleagues, and communities to take this opportunity to learn more, have those conversations, and support men in prioritising their wellbeing.

If you have any concerns, find out more and get in touch: https://iconcancercentre.co.uk/contact-us/

After breast cancer treatment ends, many women say the hardest part is only just beginning.

Anja Webster knows this feeling well.

Treated at Cancer Centre London, Anja describes the calm, compassionate care she received and the unexpected emotional challenges of survivorship that followed once appointments became less frequent and life was meant to return to ‘normal’.

Today, Anja is using her lived experience to support other women through life after breast cancer, helping them navigate fear of recurrence, rebuild confidence, and feel grounded again via The Breast Cancer Coach .

Her story is one of care, resilience, and hope – and a powerful reminder that no one has to face life after cancer alone. 💛
