My teaching style 🌿

My practice, and the way I share it, is rooted in curiosity, clarity and genuine care. I see yoga as a tool which helps us return to simplicity, to the breath, to the body, to the present moment.

My classes invite students to slow down, to tune into the subtle sensations and to reconnect to their inner calm through mindful movements and breath awareness. I invite my students to notice the small things - the subtle shift of breath, the quiet space between movements, the stillness that restores the nervous system. I love weaving these details into teaching, creating space for students to listen inwardly, to steady the mind, and to meet themselves with kindness.

Rather than urging students towards perfection, I nurture authenticity and presence. Each class becomes an exploration of what it means to be fully here, allowing healing to begin in quiet, attentive moments. My hope is that students leave class feeling replenished, having reconnected to their own inner wisdom through mindful movement and breath.

At its heart, my teaching is about cultivating inner listening and self-compassion, creating a calm, welcoming space where transformation unfolds naturally - one breath, one subtle shift at a time.

My approach honours the essence of yoga as a practice of presence, compassion and gentle transformation, inviting everyone to return home to themselves 🤍

If you've never been on a yoga retreat before, it's a truly special opportunity to immerse yourself in the ancient teachings and practices of yoga in a calm and uplifting environment. The Ammerdown Centre itself is renowned for its beautiful grounds and tranquil surroundings - an ideal setting for reflection and renewal.

Yoga is often perceived as aimed at developing flexibility. Although being supple is beneficial, it is equally important to develop strength which will support the existing flexibility. The Sanskrit terms 'Sthira' and 'Sukham' aptly describe the need to find a healthy balance between softness & firmness.

The main focus of the new 'Yoga for Strength' class is on developing strength in our yoga practice.

💪 Strength in the legs & ankles ensures better stability, balance and confidence when walking and moving around. Knee issues often resolve when we strengthen the legs' muscles. The likelihood of suffering a fall sharply decreases once our foundations -feet & legs- are strong & steady. In yoga, standing poses, including balancing postures, are ideal for creating strength in the lower body.

💪 A strong pelvic floor & core are vital to give support to our internal organs and to help us avoid common issues such as leakages and prolapse as we get older. A strong core will give support to the lower back and help us avoid back issues. In yoga we have specific practices like Mulabandha & Uddiyana Bandha which address these areas.

💪 We lose muscle mass as we age and the upper body can become weak, especially in women.
Variations of plank and Dog help maintain a strong upper body, including strong wrists.

💪 Strong back muscles are important as they protect the spine and improve our everyday posture by making it easier to sit and stand upright as our postural muscles become more efficient. The 'Yoga for Strength' class includes back bends which focus on developing strength, rather than flexibility.

💪 The optional use of light weights will be made available, like 0.5kg wrists' & ankles' weights, as well as sandbags to increase resistance.

You'll be amazed at how easy and how much fun it is to develop your strength once you start practising regularly. If you already practise yoga, you'll see the benefits in your other yoga classes, too. This is because strength equals better stability and confidence in your yoga practice.

'Yoga for Strength' classes start on Thursday 18th September. Sign up for a 6-week course for £90 or try a one-off class for £18!
