Tips for eye health during winter posted by

A few additional points in regard to increased screen time:

- Blink regularly as focusing on screens makes you blink less
- Follow the 20/20/20 rule which is a good guideline to reduce digital fatigue, every 20 minutes look at something 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds
- Position your gadget further away from your eyes
- Minimise distracting reflections in screens for example windows

A few additional points in regards to winter lighting:

- During the day, sit close to a window to see things more clearly
- In winter, there is less light, so your pupils expand which reduces eye depth of focus, which can result in blurred vision

This day is an annual event to raise awareness of blindness and the importance of eye care.

What you can do to help protect your vision?

Book a sight test and make sure you regularly get seen.
Educate yourself on importance of eye health and how lifestyle choices like diet and screen time affect your vision.
Encourage others to look after their eyes and get sight tests done.
Promote eye friendly habits like taking regular breaks from screen, wearing sunglasses even when the UV index rises to 3 or more, eating rich nutrient diet, having less alcohol, staying active and not smoking.
