TO THOSE THAT ARE STRUGGLING - A FEW WORDS

A few days ago someone special to me bought me this as a present.
-
For those that know, this is an excerpt from my book Behind Gym Doors.
-
Behind Gym Doors is broken up into 10 lessons - funny, serious, and disturbing.
-
This is the last lesson.
-
And it feels apt right now with so many people who are struggling (and more so those in the fitness industry).
-
The game has changed. Covid, new technology, the economy and the rise of social media 'fitness influencers' have taken their toll. Gyms and PT's are going under like nobody's business.
-
There have been so many times in the last 15 years where I've wanted to give up. Where, at times, I was barely scraping 5 sessions a week. But these are almost always countered with times where I've turned people away for being too busy. This industry is not linear and nowadays it tends not to follow trends.
-
And as frustrating as it is at times, and as disillusioned by the industry as a lot of you might feel, my advice is to grit your teeth, know that things will inevitably be better, and just keep going.
-
But, if you really feel like change is inevitable then know this - By changing tact and going in a different direction is NOT giving up. It's knowing what serves you at the time and being proactive about change.
-
So as long as you're taking one tiny step forward (even if your ego makes you feel like you're going backwards), you're always progressing, no matter what.

One week out from Xmas and I’ve just smashed a Peloton workout.

I train maximum x3 resistance sessions a week and x2 15-30 minute cardio sessions a week. With it being slow at xmas I barely reach an average of 7,000 steps a day.
-
You dont need to be 100% all of the time to get results.
-
In the last two weeks alone I’ve eaten pizza after pizza and im still leanish (13-15% bodyfat).
-
Just consistent movement, no matter what it is…

It’s taken me nearly three years to put 15 years of training millionaires, billionaires, celebrities and professional sports men and women down on paper. I had been putting off writing a book for so long, but if it hadn’t been for the constant nagging of clients and colleagues in getting me to write these experiences down, then I would never have done it.

Anyway, as of today, the 1st December 2022, BEHIND GYM DOORS is now officially released alongside my new author site www.matthodgesauthor.com (where you can get signed first edition copies)

It doesn’t matter if you’re a fitness lover ❤️ or a fitness hater 😡 , BEHIND GYM DOORS has something for everyone. It isnt a book that tells you how to train or how to eat (in fact it’s the opposite), its more about the lives of the aforementioned and their weird and wonderful ways that I have been privaledged enough to encounter. It’s Friday and im beat. I’ve trained four times this week for the first time in a LONG time!

Results aren’t based on being there 100% of the time. Listening and understanding how the body works has always worked best for me.
-
I’m not in bad shape for 40 (around 13-15% bodyfat) and still pushing kg numbers around that I did when I was 30ish.
-
I just train twice a week. And thats it. Not the amount of times that most gymrats will tell you.
