when you run a business, rest can start to feel like a risk.
but the truth is, the business runs better when you do.
how do you set boundaries or switch off?

Inspired by Medical Lawyer (go and give them a follow!). What’s in the diary today-
1. Accountant call
2. Emails!
3. Finishing up progress reports
4. Start quantum care report
5. Return to work meeting with client and employer
6. Meeting with Play Therapist
and maybe a glass of wine after?

do I miss hands-on care sometimes? yes.
do I love seeing the bigger picture now? absolutely.
it’s still nursing — just with more spreadsheets and slightly less PPE 😅

nurses are pros at care — just not always for ourselves.
burnout creeps in quietly, and before you know it, you’re running on caffeine and autopilot.

these are three things I try to do when I finally realise I’m running on empty.
👉 swipe through — maybe it’s the reminder you need too.

what’s your go-to reset when you hit burnout? ⬇️

people say “it was just a concussion”
but here’s the thing — there’s no such thing as just when it comes to the brain.

being a new nurse taught me two things:
1️⃣ coffee is a food group
2️⃣ no one actually knows what they’re doing either 😂

it’s halloween 🎃
so let’s talk about something that still makes people squirm more than ghosts and ghouls —
s*x.
yes, we talk about it in case management.
because recovery includes every part of life, even the awkward ones.

I’ve been thinking about this a lot recently…When people ask “what does a Case Manager do?” what do I say? 👀 ever wondered what a case manager actually does?

because here’s the thing: I could give you the official CMS definition (and yes, it’s accurate)…but let’s be honest, no one outside the industry has a clue what that means.

so instead, here’s a real story:

a mum in her 40s, post-accident, exhausted just climbing the stairs.
endless consultants. endless appointments. a family trying to hold it together.

my job? connect the dots. get the right people talking. fight for funding.
basically, make sure she wasn’t just surviving, but actually rebuilding her life.

that’s case management. not the textbook, the real thing.

curious? I wrote the full story here 👉 https://www.annae.co.uk/post/what-does-a-case-manager-do

Why older sisters make the BEST Case Managers… 💼✨

✔️ Expert in multi-tasking since childhood
✔️ Raised to spot chaos from 3 miles away
✔️ Built-in sense of justice and snacks
✔️ Born to organise people who didn’t ask to be organised

Basically? We’ve been training for this our whole lives.

From the hospital wards… to homes, courtrooms, and care plans.

When I qualified as a nurse in 2012, I thought I’d stay on the wards forever. I loved the pace, the people, the problem-solving. I worked in Major Trauma, Brain Injury and Acute Medicine. I saw people on their hardest days – and sometimes their last.

But something always stayed with me.

It was the patients who left. Who went home with complex injuries, new disabilities, long rehab plans… and no clear support.

And the families. Exhausted. Confused. Trying to be carers, nurses, therapists – while holding down jobs and dealing with trauma themselves.

I became a Case Manager because I couldn’t stop thinking about them.

Now, I get to bring all of that experience and heart into my work. I coordinate rehabilitation. I advocate fiercely. I hold space for healing.

And every time a client reaches a milestone – whether it’s walking unaided, managing pain better, or even just going out for coffee again – I remember: this is what I was meant to do.

💬 If you’ve ever felt called to do something different in your career… I’d love to hear your story. Drop it in the comments.
