Last week, I have shared with you on what I give my kids to boost their immune system - that is bone broth.

Today, I wanted to share with you sauerkraut. YES...this is what I give to them. Also to my surprise, they loved it. It was by chance that one day, we were eating dinner with them and they have asked to try it and since then, loved it. When we can, we would try to eat the kids, with the hope that they may see things on our plate that they would like to try...this was one of them.

Is eating raw and vegan food a fad or are there benefits?

Raw food can include fermented foods, sprouted legumes, grains, nuts and seeds and of course fruits and vegetables but can also be fish and meat.

Some studies indicate that not cooking your food keeps enzymes and nutrients locked in to aid digestion, allowing our body to enjoy its benefits. However it can be argued that eating raw food, may be difficult to digest due to its inability to break down the fibre and plant cell walls and some cooked food reduces anti-nutrients they contain.

People may argue that eating raw food can be limited, hence can lead to the consumption of snacks which may not be so healthy to ensure fullness.

Either way, seek professional advice from your GP or nutritional therapist before making a decision to go 💯 raw.

Lentil pie

Are you looking for something warm and hearty tonight? Why not try making lentil pie?

It is packed with iron, that are important for children's development as it helps move oxygen from the lungs to the rest of the body and helps muscles store and use of oxygen.

During pregnancy, it prevents a condition of anaemia by helping to move oxygen from your lungs to the rest of your body and baby.

Contains folate which helps to prevent birth defects.

Are you looking for ways to get your kids eat kale?

Why not try making kale chips? This was a hit in our house with our 2 toddlers. It ran out in seconds.

Recipe:

- 250g kale
- 1 TBS miso paste ( is what we use at home, thanks to our friend and founder Bonnie for creating such tasty miso which are a great addition to cooking as it is packed with good bacteria which supports gut health)
- Drizzle of olive oil

Baked in oven for 20 mins (10 mins on each side) at 140 degrees.

Benefits of kale:

Full of antioxidants - neutralise free radicals damage to promote overall health
Packed with vitamin C, supporting immune systems
Vitamin A, which plays an important part in a child’s development as it promotes healthy cell growth within their body – it also plays a significant role in supporting healthy bone growth and vision
Calcium and potassium; which is essential for keeping our kid’s bones healthy.

S*x hormones

What are they? What do they do?

These are hormones that are responsible for the reproduction, development of s*x characteristics and our s*x drive. The main 3 hormones are oestrogens, progesterone and testosterone.

So what kind of foods can we eat to ensure balance?

Today, I want to talk about some foods that support the balance of oestrogens.

These are part of cruciferous family. Packed with isothiocyanates and indole-3-carbinol (I3C) which plays a role in oestrogens metabolism – important nutrients that prevents estrogen-related cancers. Eating broccoli can help to reduce excess of oestrogens due to its high in fibre intake.

They are high in antioxidants, that is important for oestrogens production.

Bowel movement frequency and consistency is a key detoxification concept. Bone broth can improve bowel motility.

It has been regarded as a "golden herb" in Ayurvedic due to its various beneficial properties - anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, anti-microbial, anti-cancer, immunomodulatory. It improves oestrogen metabolism and is great to support detoxification pathway to clear out any excess oestrogen.
