What a wonderful set of responses to the world trying to constrain us.

I’m really pleased to be invited to present at the UKHC later this year on how to successfully navigate the nexus between trauma and chronic illness, specifically autoimmunity.
I came to this area of study because of self-interest. I’ve got a couple of chronic health conditions, one genetic, other autoimmune. I’m also neurodivergent, a population that has astronomically higher rates of trauma than neurotypicals.
Teasing out what we can manage and what we can’t can be difficult, as can keeping a positive outlook.
My talk will educate other mental health professionals about how they can best support their clients with chronic health conditions, be that symptom management, or simply the resilience to know that they can stand strong.

In this talk, we’ll explore the relationship between trauma and chronic illness, with a focus on autoimmunity. Many of us encounter clients with chronic health issues, and gaining a grounding in the ‘whys’ behind their lived experiences can aid us in supporting our clients more effectively. We...

Just a gentle reminder that how we see ourselves is NEVER the full story.
Perhaps if you’re feeling a bit down and like you’ve lost your way, ask someone around you to reflect yourself back. You might be surprised at how you’re viewed.

Figure 1: I’m so ugly, I don’t know what you see in me
Figure 2: Well you only see yourself in selfies or in the mirror
Figure 2: I see you when a dog walks by. I see you when a joke catches you off guard…
(New panel) when our children get off the school bus. When you put on clothes fresh from the dryer on a cold day. Your face is love. Your face is joy.
(New panel) figure 1 is smiling
Figure 2: yeah like that

Boundaries aren’t difficult, or complicated to enforce. They’re a simple reminder to yourself about what’s important to you and what you’ll do to maintain your peaceful life
Image description: a multi-scene comic with a blue fox talking to two grey foxes
Green fox: please respect my boundaries and be nicer to me, or you won’t see me again
Grey foxes: stop making such childish and silly demands
Green fox: okay (turns around and walks away)
Grey foxes: hey!
And the green fox lived happily ever after
With people who don’t think that’s unreasonable
(Ends with a picture of the green fox with a blue fox with love hearts above them)

Were you raised to be “good” at the expense of actually understanding your needs and wants and having them met?
Want to unlearn some of that and become more authentically who you really are?
It’s a process, and it can feel a little scary, but with the right support and guidance you can only dream what you might be able to let go of and move towards!
"We live in a culture where the highest compliment a parent can receive is that his or her kid is 'well behaved' (read: docile). When strangers in restaurants ell us how 'good' our daughter is, they don't mean that she is admirable in an ethical sense but merely that she hasn't been a nuisance to them. No wonder people declare matter-of-factly that it's simply unrealistic to do without treats and threats: these tactics may indeed be necessary if our goal is to produce children who spend their lives just doing what they're told." -Alfie Kohn
(It's not my goal, so you won't find advice in that direction here. ;) )

People who are depressed or anxious often ask me what they can do for themselves to help improve their mental state. Generally we have a chat about what they like and have stopped doing and we come up with some ideas that are specifically relevant to them.
Sometimes people are so depressed or anxious that they’ve forgotten what they like, who they are, what pins them to their identity.
If that’s the case, it certainly couldn’t help to follow the research. Singing and dancing (especially in groups) come up top of almost every study ever conducted.
Do yourself a favour and inject a bit of joy into your life 💃🏻 🕺 🪩
Data shows that dancing may treat depression symptoms better than SSRIs

Other forms of love are highly underrated around this time of year.
Tell me about what you love, who you love, what lights you up?

Friendly, award-winning therapy that gets results.
It really doesn’t matter what you want to achieve, maybe you want to start doing something, stop doing something, feel a different way, or just enjoy your life more. I can help.
Before you commit to starting therapy with anyone, you want to know a little about them…
In life, I’ve usually taken the path less traveled, and as a result of this, I have a wealth of life experiences that I can bring to the table. My mum has always said that if I can do things the hard way, I will. I love to learn and explore and I’m very curious about what’s going on in their world and our relationships and experiences and how we can make them better.
This curiosity has paid off because I’ve studied and learned a wide array of different skills that I can employ at the right moment to help you make the changes you want.
Have you tried therapy before but didn’t get the results you wanted?
Are you feeling unheard or unseen or just not getting the support you need in your life?
Stuck in overload and can’t quite work out the best next steps forward?
For quite a long time I was really ill and as a result I didn’t get to spend much time outdoors actually interacting with people, so I learned as much as I could about them through books and study. My passion for learning as much as I can about humans and what makes us tick has lead me to achieve qualifications in psychology, CBT, mindfulness, hypnotherapy, coaching, NLP, counselling and psychospiritual shamanism. I teach hypnotherapy and coaching to students at the London Hypnotherapy Academy and I’m currently prevaricating about whether I should commit several years of my life towards studying nutritional therapy.
But really, it doesn’t matter what I know how to do, what’s important is how you feel in sessions and after sessions.
My role is to provide you with a safe and supportive environment where you can explore freely without fear of judgment.
When you work with me, we take a positive and solution-focused approach, exploring your life and what’s working as well as looking at what isn’t. You’re unique and so your solutions are going to be unique. Rather than imposing one style of therapy or way or working on you, we use your model of the world and start from where you are.
Are you ready to make changes in your life?
Is it time to get out of your own way?
Ready to achieve your goals?
Let’s talk. I want to work with people who are committed to achieving change, even if the thought seems scary or insurmountable. I’m happy to discuss anything, be it race, religion, cultural background, or sexuality because I understand that it affects you and your experience of life.
Everything we discuss in our sessions is confidential and bound by strict privacy laws.
