nursing, dementia, respite, rehabilitation and palliative care.

Nightingale Hammerson provide outstanding residential, nursing, dementia and palliative care to older people within the community in our award winning homes at Nightingale House in Clapham and Hammerson House, Wohl Campus in Hampstead Garden Suburbs. We have a wonderful team of dedicated care specialists, nurses and healthcare assistants who work closely with our therapies and engagement teams. Together, they enhance Residents’ physical and mental well-being, as well as providing enjoyment and companionship. Our charity gives peace of mind to many families as well as comfort and security for Residents. More than ever before, we rely on the generosity of our community who support our fundraising through our events and individual philanthropy. Nightingale House is also home to the first nursery on a care home site in the UK; Apples & Honey Nightingale. Our intergenerational programme bring our residents and the nursery children together on a daily basis, bringing a huge amount of joy and engagement for young and old alike. Both Nightingale House and Hammerson House, Wohl Campus welcome Residents from across the Jewish community, whether coming from London or further afield.

Celebrating the Social Care Research Forum as part of the 20th anniversary of the NIHR, a milestone moment for social care research, marked by record levels of funding, opportunity and momentum across the sector.

The NIHR Research Delivery Network Social Care Research Conference brought together academics, care providers, people with lived experience and colleagues from across health and social care to explore how we can strengthen and expand research that truly makes a difference.

Nuno Santos Lopes chaired a forward‑looking panel discussion with Sandra Prew, Dr Zena Aldridge, Dr Mark Wilberforce, and Professor Geraldine Macdonald, focusing on the future of social care research and the collective action needed to drive progress.

This is a golden era for social care research. Let’s work together to make the most of it. Join the research movement, challenge yourself and enhance the care deliver to our communities.

We were absolutely thrilled to have our Chief Executive, Jenny Pattinson, representing Nightingale Hammerson at the Third Sector Innovation Hub. Jenny brought her wealth of experience and insight, exploring how digital technology and AI are not just reshaping the way charities operate but have the potential to transform the experience of everyone delivering and receiving care and support, if governed by the right principles and used in the right way.

Jenny’s reflections sparked meaningful conversations about the opportunities and challenges of innovation in the charitable care sector from improving efficiency and accessibility to ensuring technology enhances human connection rather than replacing it.

A huge thank you to Jenny for flying the Nightingale Hammerson flag with such insight and passion and to everyone who joined the discussion. Together, we’re shaping the future of care, innovation and community.

The celebrations continued as we welcomed young people and families from Wimbledon Chabad for a truly interactive intergenerational session, filled with music, stories and connection. This Social Workers Month we’re reflecting on the quiet power of social work, not just as a profession but as a lifeline. At Nightingale Hammerson, social workers are often the steady presence behind some of life’s most complex transitions. They support families navigating difficult decisions, advocate when voices feel unheard and hold space for uncertainty, emotion and change with compassion and professionalism in equal measure.

Recently, a social care worker who came to visit one of our Residents shared, "It was so wonderful to see Frankie today – she is a completely different person from the Frankie who left hospital 6 weeks ago. It is great to see the care she is receiving here." Frankie’s son echoed this, "I can honestly say every staff member I have met is really kind. My mum is so happy here".

These moments remind us why partnership working matters so deeply. Social work in later life is about far more than care planning. It’s about ensuring that when someone moves from hospital into care, they are not just safe but they are seen, supported and able to thrive.

In a sector facing increasing pressures, funding challenges and rising complexity of need, social workers continue to show up with resilience and heart. Thank you to all our social workers and social workers everywhere for the unseen emotional labour, the advocacy and the unwavering commitment to putting people first. Because behind every strong community is someone making sure no one is navigating it alone.

Last night, we were proud to host a very special evening at Nightingale House as we screened the award-winning short film Beshert, filmed right here at Nightingale House last summer.

Since filming, Beshert has gone on to win Best Short Film at the UK Jewish Film Festival and is now travelling the world on the international short film festival circuit and we couldn’t be more delighted that its journey began with us.

We opened our doors to the South London Jewish community and beyond for a wonderful evening of canapés, cocktails and the opportunity to showcase our newly renovated café. The screening was made even more special by the presence of the film’s producers, Jason Solomons and Naomi Gryn, alongside director Lewis Rose, who generously joined us for a fascinating and heartfelt Q&A.

There was great excitement in the room as we spotted members of our own team appearing as extras on screen and recognised so many familiar locations as the backdrop to this beautiful story.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make it such a memorable evening.

Spring is finally on its way and we couldn’t be more delighted to see our beautiful flowers beginning to bloom 🌷

There’s something so special about watching the garden come back to life; brighter mornings, fresh colours and the promise of warmer days ahead.

We’re especially looking forward to making the most of our new terrace overlooking the garden in the coming months. It will be such a lovely spot for Residents, families and friends to sit together, enjoy the sunshine and take in all the beauty of the season.

Climate Change and Healthy Ageing 🌍

The chAnGE project (Climate change and healthy AgeinG: co-creating E-learning for resilience and adaptation) is co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme. Ines Santa and Nuno Santos Lopes, from Nightingale Hammerson, worked together with the team at Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon, Hospital da Luz Learning Health, and emeis Portugal to develop some of the programme modules.

The goal of chAnGE is to empower health and social care professionals to plan for and integrate climate change adaptation and resilience into their daily practice.

The project offers interactive, accessible, short-format e-learning courses, co-created with professionals and older adults. These online modules are free and available as bit size micro-credentials (MCs), allowing participants to accumulate learning credits over time.

Our Story

Nightingale House is a 200 bedded Jewish residential care home in South West London and Hammerson House, now closed for a major redevelopment, will be our 116 bedded home in North West London when it reopens in 2020/21.. Our Homes offer residential, nursing, dementia and respite care on a beautiful sites. We offer "care for life" and an exciting and diverse activities programme, together with a wide range of services and facilities including an in-house medical service, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, pharmacy and more. Nightingale House is home to the first nursery on a care home site in the UK. Apples & Honey Nightingale. Both Homes have ambitious and extensive rebuilding and refurbishment programmes. The Charity receives no support from either central or local government in respect of any such capital projects. We are therefore largely dependent on the generosity of our friends in the community to fund capital works and also to help bridge the gap between monies received from local authorities and the true cost of running the Homes. The Charity is facing the ongoing challenge of caring for a client group who are increasingly frail and with very high care needs. Both Nightingale House and Hammerson House welcome residents from across the Jewish community, whether coming from London or further afield.
