🌿 “Remove the veils of illusion you have woven around yourself, and you will behold your true self, pure and free.”
- Paramahansa Yogananda
So often, we live adopting identities that aren’t truly ours. We play characters to fit in, meet expectations, or feel “enough” for others. Over time, these layers of falsehood can shape our habits and destructive patterns - ways of thinking or acting that no longer serve us but feel familiar. Some people become so attached to the character they’ve learnt to play that they lose touch with their authentic self altogether.
The real journey is about peeling back those layers. By noticing which behaviours and beliefs come from these learned characters, we can release them and reconnect with the self that has always existed beneath - the self that is whole, capable, and free. From this place, we can live in alignment with our highest path, acting from clarity, integrity, and true inner guidance.
To make sure you’re acting from your true self, rather than a learned character:
1. Notice your automatic reactions - do they come from fear, obligation, or trying to fit in?
2. Check your motivations - are your actions aligned with your values, or designed to gain approval or avoid judgement?
3. Pause before acting - even a brief moment of awareness can break the cycle of unconscious “character behaviours.”
By bringing awareness to these patterns, you can begin to live in alignment with your authentic self and your highest path.
