I had an interesting conversation this morning.
We were talking about how, in some spaces, yoga can be experienced mainly as a physical asana practice.
And I found myself smiling… because that’s never quite been my experience of yoga.
Yes, we move.
Yes, we build strength, mobility, resilience.
The body matters. It’s our doorway in.
But what I teach is not just shapes.
There is always a thread.
A theme.
Something quietly weaving through the practice that speaks to life beyond the mat.
Sometimes it’s about how we hold ourselves in challenge.
Sometimes it’s about softness, or truth, or devotion.
Sometimes it’s simply remembering that life is happening for us, not to us.
The asana becomes a language for that conversation.
That’s also why I call my classes intermediate.
Not because you need to be able to do the “advanced” poses.
But because there is an invitation to go a little deeper.
To feel.
To listen.
To refine.
To stay when things get uncomfortable, and to soften when the tendency is to push.
It’s less about what the pose looks like,
and more about how you meet yourself inside it.
For me, yoga has always been life-affirming.
A space to come back to what is true, steady, and meaningful.
So yes… we move the body.
But we’re also practicing how to live.
