If you do one thing this week, go outside and find some fractalsπΏπβοΈππΈοΈ
One of my favourite moments is watching golden sunlight flicker through tree leaves. The shapes it creates are mesmerisingβand science shows theyβre healing too.
One intriguing theory as to why the sights of nature can be so healing involves patterns called fractals. They emerge naturally in clouds, snowflakes, raindrops, streams, lakes, trees and along coastlines. Weβre hardwired to respond positively to fractals, with one study finding that looking at them can help us recover from stress 60 per cent more quickly. Even looking at these patterns for a short time gives us a spike in alpha-wave brain activity, which is present when weβre in a thrive state. And brain scans reveal that looking at fractals can activate the Parahippocampus, an area of the brain that helps us regulate emotions.
With nature bursting into life across the UK, itβs the perfect time to go fractal bathing. You donβt need to searchβjust be among them and notice how you feel.
If you find some, feel free to share some photos in the comments!
