✨ ✨

Yesterday I was lucky enough to be invited by to join an event hosted by the and the Mayor of Islington.

The gathering embodied this year’s theme of , bringing together seven MS charities and community members for informal conversations and meaningful dialogue that left me both inspired and uplifted.

Listening to Mayor & Councillor Anjna Khurana and British Olympic athlete Lina Neilsen discuss their experiences was particularly moving. Their candour encouraged frank conversation - precisely what’s needed to build awareness around such a diverse condition.

Being so close to a loved one with MS has taught me how this condition manifests differently in each individual - affecting the physical body, cognitive function, and emotional wellbeing, through both visible and invisible symptoms.

These matter profoundly. By sharing experiences, we not only connect with one another but also educate those who may not understand the multifaceted nature of living with MS. Awareness is more than just an appreciation that the condition exists, it’s understanding the experience of living with MS and how and where to support someone. Sometimes, for example as shared, it’s helpful just to listen, and not be solution-focused!

My sincere gratitude to the and the Mayor for hosting such a thoughtful and insightful event 🧡🧡🧡

This weekend I was again honoured to be facilitating the annual retreat.
This event is a real highlight in the Overcoming MS diary offering a digital and in-person hybrid event. This structure enables a deep-dive and experiential opportunity to really understand how to implement the evidence-based Overcoming MS lifestyle program.

As well as offering so much information with hands-on, practical workshops we also provide a safe and unique space for participants with MS (and their supporters) to meet and bond with other like-minded people with MS. This is the real magic of the event - to see the sharing of stories, as well as tips and hacks for tackling every day challenges, and ultimately the creation a new community of friends and contacts who understand each other and can support each other in a way many have never yet experienced.

Thank you to the fantastic staff team & the brilliant facilitators who make this wonderful event possible 🙏🏼

The whole experience is truly rewarding and heartwarming for me and described as life-changing by the attendees. I am so grateful to work in this way, sharing the knowledge of how the evidence-based Overcoming MS Lifestyle Program really helps people to live well with MS. 🧡💙

Delighted to share the new episode from in the Living well with Multiple Sclerosis podcast series. It was my absolute pleasure to welcome the lovely Dr Emma Short, a consultant histopathologist, researcher and author.

Just last year, Dr Emma Short published a new book - Healthy Gut, Happy You - and we had a fascinating conversation about the gut, specifically the microbes that live there, and how they impact our overall health.

So much of Dr Emma Short’s knowledge and research on the importance of supporting a healthy gut population of microbes is echoed in the Overcoming MS program. The diet, physical activity, management of stress… all these pillars work to support good gut health, overall health and contribute to living well with MS.

Listen to the podcast - link in bio - to hear us discussing polyphenols, ultra processed foods, prebiotics/probiotics, the impact of lifestyle factors on the microbiome and to hear some practical advice to help implement the recommendations. Thank you Dr Emma Short! 🙏🏼

Today is National Relaxation Day!

Bright and early I started my day with a beautiful dog walk around the gorgeous pond and grounds of Ally Pally 💚

In this fast-paced world it’s more important than ever to prioritise time to rest, relax, play and rejuvenate. We simply aren’t designed to be on the go and on call 24/7. We are paying the price collectively as a super stressed-out nation, with a toll on our overall health and wellbeing.

Let’s use National Relaxation Day to try and practise a new relaxation technique, such as deep breathing, meditation, listening to music, reading a good book or simply sitting in nature gazing up at the blue sky and moving clouds….. how lovely this day falls in mid-August ☀️

One of my personal favourite quick and easy, instant relaxation hacks was given to me by : thank you Veronique! Veronique is a yoga & breathwork teacher who shared with me the 4-7-8 technique.

Breath in for a count of 4
Hold for a count of 7
Breath out for a count of 8
Repeat 10 times

This simple technique activates the parasympathetic nervous system, calming both body and mind. It’s so effective it can also be used to activate sleep!

Have a wonderful day - and take some time to stop and mindfully smell the roses. They are literally in full bloom
