“I want a wider smile, but I don’t want to go down the route of teeth straightening”- no issue for our very talented Dr Jabour and his team.

Here, just 4 veneers have been placed on the premolar teeth to widen the patient’s smile with absolutely ZERO prep needed 😮

PSA 📣 Regular interdental cleaning is a non-negotiable!

Not cleaning between your teeth regularly, increases your risk of developing gum disease and tooth decay- both known causes of tooth loss. And don’t forget- gum disease is also linked to heart disease ♥️.

Which method of interdental cleaning is best for you?

1. Floss- available in both string form and on handheld sticks. The most common form of interdental cleaning. Best for tight gaps between your teeth and getting below the gum line in difficult to reach areas. Floss TAPE tends to be more effective and less traumatic 👌🏽

2. Interdental sticks and brushes e.g. Tepes - Great for bigger gaps. Patients who have suffered bone loss/severe recession benefit from tepes greatly. Also good for cleaning beneath an appliance/bridge. When choosing a size, the brush should resist a little but you should still be able to push it through the gap.

3. Water P*k/ water flosser 🚿 - great for people with poor manual dexterity. They also work well with larger gaps/appliances. NB: it is recommended that you use a waterpik as well as one of the options above ⬆️

We recommend one session of interdental cleaning per day ☝🏽

A: Only floss the teeth you want to keep 😉

Common oral health problems during pregnancy:

1. Gum bleeding and gum disease 🩸:
Why?
- Hormone fluctuations make your gums more responsive to bacteria, causing gingivitis
- If left untreated, gingivitis can become periodontitis (gum disease)

What to do:
- Make sure you brush 2 x daily & floss 1 x daily
- See your hygienist at least once during pregnancy

2. Tooth decay 🦠:
Why?
- Sometimes women crave sugary foods and drinks during pregnancy 🍫🍬🧃

What to do:
- Opt for fresh fruit/healthy snacks where possible 🍏
- Use fluoride toothpaste
- See dentist for check-up

3. Tooth erosion:
Why?
- Morning sickness leaves excess acid on tooth surfaces 🤮

What to do:
- Rinse with water as often as possible
- Never brush straight after being sick to avoid damage to weak enamel

4. Mouth ulcers:

Why?
- Hormonal changes
- Stress
- Vitamin deficiency
- Weakened immune system

What to do:
- Practice good oral hygiene
- Rinse with salty water
- If they won’t disappear, see your dentist/doctor

5. Calcium reduction:
Why?
- Your baby feeds from your calcium supply for growth

What to do:
- Ensure you have plenty in your diet e.g. cheese, milk 🧀🥛
- Take calcium supplements (providing your doctor OK’s this)
