Thrive Tribe Academy provide innovative, fun and educational health and wellbeing packages to primary school children across the UK, including a fantastic series of face to face workshops and an exciting Lesson in a Box subscription service covering 4 topic areas (healthy eating, physical activity, mental wellbeing and smoking prevention). Everything we offer is designed in line with recommendations from the PSHE Association and can meet statutory National Curriculum guidance, supporting primary schools to achieve Healthy Schools status. We have a wealth of experience working with schools across the country to improve the health of their pupils. Our packages are produced by our expert team of health professionals including a dietitian, psychologist, physical activity expert with input from teachers, and tried and tested on many pupils! On top of that, research by Public Health England illustrates a strong link between the health and wellbeing of children and their attainment and achievement at school. Introduce the Senses 🌻http://bit.ly/healthy-minds-sample

Introduce a five-star sleeping experience to your pupils by bringing fresh smells into the bedroom – like lavender!

Taking a minute to focus on what you can feel, see, taste, hear and smell is a fantastic way of switching your pupils mindset from the playground to being present in the classroom.

Encourage your superstars to be conscious and mindful. Maybe you could pass lavender around the room as a prop throughout the exercise.

As with all habits, it may take a little longer than a week for the sleep patterns to become new health habits.

Explaining the activity to parents and the role these skills play in the development and performance of your pupils, is a great way to get support keep the healthy habits going. It could even be shared as an activity that children and their parents complete together 🙂

http://bit.ly/healthy-minds-sample

Instead of your pupils completing the sleep diary every morning, you could encourage everyone to update their dairies daily after break-time. The exercise could take as little as 5-10 minutes to turn their bundle of energy into minds that are ready for class! Meanwhile, your pupils will be soaking up the essential tips they need to know to develop healthy habits for sleep and relaxation.

Experts recommend children should spend no more than 2 hours a day in front of a screen – children’s bodies are designed to be active and keep moving.

Encourage your pupils to monitor how long they are spending in front of a screen, and to get up regularly and move around."

"A lack of exercise is thought to be as deadly as obesity.
http://bit.ly/6wellbeingtipsforschool

Tribe Members need to do an activity that gets them hot and sweaty and raises their heart rate for 60 minutes every day – this can be broken down into chunks of 10 or 20 minutes.

Teach your pupils that physical activity can be fun and encourage them to run around the playground at break time and promote active travel to and from school." http://bit.ly/6wellbeingtipsforschool

"Many children don’t drink enough fluids, especially when at school. 🥛🥛 http://bit.ly/6wellbeingtipsforschool

When hydrated, children have greater cognitive function, better visual attention, improved accuracy in motor skills such as handwriting, and more concentration which helps them to perform better.

Children are less likely to recognise the early signs of dehydration and may need gentle encouragement to remind them to drink. Encourage your class to get up and have a drink of water regularly throughout the day – all Tribe Members should be aiming to drink 6 to 8 glasses of fluid a day."

These can all lead to lack of concentration and difficulty learning."

The average 5 to 9 year-old needs between 10 and 11 hours’ sleep a night. Talk to your class about how many hours sleep they get a night, and discuss how they can establish healthy bedtime routines. For example, going to sleep at the same time every night and waking up at the same time every morning, even at the weekend."
