We are excited to announce that Redwood International has been awarded funding from the National Lottery Community Fund for our Brighter Days Ahead project! This vital initiative is dedicated to supporting young Black girls aged 13-18 in the London Borough of Brent who have lost their mothers, offering them the tools and community they need to navigate grief, improve their mental health, and reclaim their futures.

Brighter Days Ahead is a unique programme designed to meet the specific cultural and emotional needs of Black girls facing the profound impact of maternal loss. Through in-person sessions held at SEEDS Hub in Wembley, coupled with dynamic digital content accessible on platforms like TikTok and Instagram, the project will provide a blend of in-person and online support that’s both accessible and empowering.

Over the duration of the Brighter Days programme, we will directly support around 90 girls in three cohorts, each participating in 16-week sessions. They will engage in guided activities, therapeutic discussions, and skill-building workshops that focus on emotional resilience, self-care, mental health management, and advocacy. With recruitment through local schools and wellbeing centres, we aim to reach those most in need.

This initiative addresses critical gaps in mental health support for Black girls who have lost their mums, who often face unique challenges related to grief, cultural expectations, and socio-economic barriers. By creating a safe, inclusive environment, Brighter Days Ahead aims to enhance their emotional well-being, improve educational outcomes, and empower them to become strong advocates for themselves and others.

We deeply appreciate the support of the National Lottery Community Fund and everyone who plays the National Lottery, making this project a reality. Your contribution is helping to pave the way for these young girls to heal, connect, and thrive in the face of adversity.

Stay tuned as we launch Brighter Days Ahead! For more information or to get involved, please visit our website or contact us directly. Together, we are creating a community where every girl can see brighter days ahead.

📢 Dads, have you ever wondered how the loss of a mother affects a daughter's future? 💔

Did you know that girls who lose their mums at a young age often face significant emotional and psychological challenges? Unresolved grief can lead to depression, anxiety, and impact their academic performance. 😔
 30% of girls who lose their mums experience increased levels of depression and anxiety, leading to potential hospitalisations (Psychology Today) (IZA Newsroom).
 60% struggle with low self-esteem and imposter syndrome, affecting their overall well-being and future prospects(CDC).

Fathers play a crucial role in their daughters' healing journey. Your support, understanding, and love makes all the difference. ❤️
