Take your time! ⏱️

Undergoing surgery is a serious commitment. It is perfectly acceptable to take as much time as you need after an initial consultation to make a final decision.

A surgeon might recommend two consultations before booking a procedure, allowing you enough time to think it through, discuss it with your family and friends, and to ask any new questions that may crop up after your first meeting.

The current guidance from the GMC suggests a minimum cooling off period of two weeks.

Considering cosmetic surgery? You can find our full consumer safety guidelines on the patients page of our website 👩🏻‍💻

REPOST : This week, in collaboration with the Royal College of Surgeons, released guidelines for its members. These guidelines aim to provide a framework for practitioners when advising patients undergoing surgery in a foreign country. This initiative comes in response to concerns about the increasing number of individuals seeking treatment in the UK following surgeries performed abroad.

President spoke to the about the dangers of cosmetic tourism, saying "We're not trying to stop this, we're in no position to and not is this what we're aiming for. We're aiming to try and raise awareness, increase safety, ultimately protect patients but also relieve the burden on the NHS."

History of BAAPS

The speciality of Plastic Surgery was established during the First World War to help treat servicemen who had been mutilated in the conflict.

Plastic Surgery became a speciality in its own right just after the Second World War, and was used to reconstruct facial wounds on soldiers at The Cambridge Military Hospital in Aldershot.

One of the founding fathers of Plastic Surgery, Sir Harold Gillies, quickly recognised the potential of this type of surgery and was involved in the creation of a new hospital devoted to facial repairs in Sidcup, which treated thousands of servicemen from all over the world.

Cosmetic surgery as we know it today evolved naturally from reconstructive surgery, and even now all Plastic Surgeons are still trained in reconstructive surgery first.
