I put this up as a story but so many people messaged me about it, I wanted to make sure it didn’t disappear.

Loads of us pick our nails, skin, lips etc and if your kid does too, it’s not your FAULT. There’s no blame to be assigned.

I find loom bands allow my son to do the same action of picking but without the damage, I also ask him to tell me when he notices himself doing it because brining it from an I conscious to a conscious habit is part of stopping.

If your kid has a habit, make a point of sharing when you notice they DONT do it as opposed to when they do.

Remember, any behaviour that gets a reaction, will be repeated.

This guide was inspired by the 1000’s of parents who reach out to me, your faith in my ability to help has been astounding.

1-2-1 sessions are expensive and all I wanted was to make something that’s supremely helpful as well as affordable. I hope I’ve managed!

Remember the long game, your child is built upon the foundations you lay in their early years. Stop threatening to abandon them in the park, stop adding salt to the wounds of their mistakes and start thinking ahead!

Here’s another hot topic! Something I see so much in the adult lines, I work with and something I see so many parents worried their children will do/become people pleasing can completely ruin you, remember as an adult it doesn’t really matter what you were taught as a child you now have the tools and the freewill to change behaviours if they’re not working for you.

if you’re worried that your child is going to become a people pleaser, the most powerful thing you can do is to stop role modelling this behaviour. Remember, if something is a generational habit, you can choose to break the Cycle or repeat it.

The reality is, if you asked your child if they wanted ice cream, they would probably stop what they were doing and listen to what you were saying. Much the same way that if your partner was at work you wouldn’t just walk into the room and start talking to them, and expect them to drop everything and do what you want, children’s play is their work.

Show your willingness to enter their world, speak their language as time is an ethereal concept and use play to make sure that they’ve heard.

I can ask this question a lot, lying is a developmental milestone, and I always say you should be happy when your child starts doing it because it shows their brains are developing! However, sometimes it is difficult to tell whether it is a harmless lie inviting you to play, or if it’s an actual porky pie.

I hope this clarifies, what your child means when they say some of these things!

I have to say, not only did this reduce the amount of whingeing and complaining that I was subjected to, but it genuinely made me feel more optimistic, and I started to do this on my own whenever I was being a bit of a Debbie downer, too!

I know that when your child tells you something, they feel sad about all you want to do is make it better, however we have to take a bigger picture outlook on this kind of thing and think about the kind of person we’re building them to be in the future..
