Who we are:
The International Forum is jointly organised by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) and BMJ . The ambition of both organisations is to improve health care and outcomes for patients and communities. The International Forum is sustained by an international network of quality improvement organisations and leaders. IHI is an independent not-for-profit organisation helping to lead the improvement of health care throughout the world. Founded in 1991 and based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA, IHI works to accelerate improvement by building the will for change, cultivating promising concepts for improving patient care and turning those ideas into action. As a global healthcare knowledge provider, BMJ publishes one of the world’s most cited general medical journals, The BMJ, and over 70 specialty journals. The company also offers digital professional development courses and clinical decision support tools to help health professionals improve the quality of healthcare delivery.

The final day of the BMJ IHI International Forum on Quality and Safety in Healthcare in Oslo has brought an inspiring few days of learning and connection to a close.

Throughout the day, delegates joined sessions exploring how artificial intelligence can support improvement, how leaders can strengthen system resilience, and how co-production with patients and communities can drive meaningful change.

We closed the evening with a celebration of our Global Top 30 Improvers Awards. Keep an eye out for the announcement of the winners - and a huge congratulations to and all our inspiring finalists!

Thank you to everyone who joined us in Oslo to celebrate 30 years of the International Forum and to contribute to the conversations, collaboration and shared ambition that define this global improvement community.

It has been a fantastic few days together, and we’re already looking forward to next year in Lisbon next April 2026!

Good morning from Oslo and the final day of .

We’re about to begin the last day of the International Forum on Quality and Safety with another exciting line-up of sessions, discussions, and keynotes.

By the end of this week, we will have hosted more than 100 sessions featuring over 120 speakers from across the globe - all contributing their expertise, experience, and ideas to our shared mission of improving care for patients and communities everywhere.

This year’s gathering has been particularly special as we celebrate the 30th anniversary of the International Forum. For three decades, this community has brought people together to share learning, challenge thinking, and accelerate improvement in health and care systems around the world.

A huge thank you to every delegate, speaker, sponsor, and supporter who made the journey to Oslo. Your time, insight, and energy are what make the International Forum so powerful.

Day two of the BMJ IHI International Forum on Quality and Safety in Healthcare in Oslo brought the global improvement community together for another day of learning, discussion and connection.

Across the programme, delegates joined sessions exploring how to redesign care through stronger partnerships, build cultures of continuous improvement, strengthen patient safety and use technology to increase value in healthcare.

Workshops, World Cafés and panels created space for practical exchange, from improving outcomes for vulnerable populations to spreading knowledge for improvement across entire health systems.

It’s been a full and energising day, and we’re so grateful to everyone who spoke, presented, asked questions, and joined the conversation. We’re looking forward to seeing you again for the final day of the conference tomorrow!

Yesterday’s workshops and Experience Days set the stage with fresh ideas and real-world stories of change. Today, we move into two full days of sessions, keynotes, and poster presentations - all focused on turning inspiration into impact.

We’ll hear from more than 100 speakers across 100 + sessions, each bringing unique insights into how we can improve care, support our teams, and build better systems.

Day 1 of the International Forum on Quality and Safety in Healthcare in Oslo ✔️

An inspiring start to a week centered on this year’s theme: “The Power of Us: Strengthening Systems and Deepening Resilience to Improve Quality in Health and Care."

Today was all about hands-on learning. Delegates stepped beyond the conference venue to experience improvement in action across Oslo - from new approaches to elder care in municipal nursing homes to exploring culture and innovation at Akershus University Hospital.

Health systems around the world are under sustained pressure, from workforce shortages and rising demand, to constrained budgets and digital transformation.

That is exactly why we are here.

Over the next 3 days, clinicians, leaders, researchers and policymakers from across the world will share ideas, test assumptions and explore practical solutions to make care safer, more equitable and more effective.

Over the next few days, healthcare improvers, leaders, and change-makers from near and far will come together to share ideas, challenge assumptions, and spark change that improves care for everyone.

Our Canberra theme, “Think differently, start small, have impact,” is all about taking a fresh approach, working together, and making healthcare more equitable, inclusive, and culturally safe.
